I am comfortable working with most ages and with those struggling with a wide variety of diagnoses including eating disorders, depression, anxiety, family distress, marital/relationship distress, trauma, and self-harm.
You're already looking for a therapist, which means you know that you and/or your loved one deserve to live a mentally healthier life. My therapeutic style tends to be collaborative and trauma-informed, with the aim of all treatment being both long term healing and practical, client-based solutions. I believe that, while I bring psychological insight and therapy skills to the session, you are the expert on yourself and your family. Together, we can walk to a healthier life, whatever that looks like, because you (both) deserve it.

I am fat-positive therapist and specialize in the treatment of eating disorders, trauma, depression, and anxiety.
As a therapist, I foundationally work from the belief that all humans deserve to feel safe and at home in their bodies. In this messy world, we can often find ourselves not trusting our bodies and wanting to change them. Sometimes within that mess, people may find themselves coping in ways that do not address their deep, underlying needs. I believe in this therapeutic process, you can reconnect with those needs and serve them more intentionally, healing the deepest parts of yourself. My goal is not only to help you find that healing, but to also enjoy and accept the messiness along the way.

In our hectic world, life can often feel difficult... You may feel worried and have difficulty quieting your mind, perhaps feeling like it's all you can do to get out of bed each day. Maybe you worry about your weight and obsess about food (what you want to eat but believe you shouldn’t), overeating, dieting, starving, or purging, tormented and consumed by self criticism and a harsh inner critic.... You're ready for a change but aren't sure where to start or feel too worn down to try something new. You want to be free from anxious, worried thoughts. You want to feel more alive and engaged in life and silence your harsh inner critic.

Your phone taps against the keyboard displaying another text from your partner. ‘Maybe it's a ragged chapter.’ One of many thoughts circling while scanning the first couple words. ‘What the hell did you forget?’ Car. Bday cards- mail. Amazon package- Whole Foods. ‘Wasn’t I supportive in that last convo? What else!’ Resigned. Knowing you don’t know. A tightness grips your chest lifting your hand to scratch your head. Yet, you push. Racking your brain recalling tips from the Gottmans. ’Damnit.’ There’s no more ground to scrape to hold back all the demands. Picking up your phone. You thumb through the contacts. Thinking of who to call

I work with the following conditions: addictions, alcoholism, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, life transitions, problems in living, relationship issues and trauma.
My goal is to help you to resolve the problems that bring you to therapy and to help you to understand the personal and environmental factors that might have contributed to your problems. I draw from both insight-oriented and cognitive-behavioral approaches and I believe that therapy is first and foremost a collaborative partnership where the patient and therapist work together to achieve stability; restore functioning; remedy long-standing, problematic behavior patterns; and develop a platform for lifelong growth, renewed energy, self-development and enhanced relationships. I've been in practice since 1990.

Eating Disorders Therapists
What happens in therapy for eating disorders?
In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.
What therapy types help with eating disorders?
Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.
What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?
The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.
What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?
Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.
How long does therapy last for eating disorders?
Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
