EMDR is my "go-to" approach.
When life presents us with hardship is necessary to have someone walking alongside us to give a clear concept and provide us with options. I strive to offer compassion, empathy, and a non-judgmental environment where clients can be themselves. As a native South American counselor, I understand and care for adjustment, cultural, injustice, racial, and adaptation issues. I specialize in grief, divorce, immigration, depression, anxiety, and complex trauma. When requested, I offer spiritual guidance through Christian principles in order to improve quality of life. Ofrezco consejeria en tu idioma, conmigo recibiras apoyo y orientacion.

My approach to therapy is through a trauma informed lens utilizing EMDR and integrating parts work therapy strategies.
You just want to feel better but there are parts of you that keep you in this vicious cycle of negative beliefs, self-doubt, unproductive patterns, and overthinking. You may feel ashamed and alone as you’re faced with challenges and uncertainties at home, work, or in your relationships. Perhaps you’re trying to make sense of your emotional pain from an unhappy childhood, stressful life experience, distressing memories, and/or unresolved issues. You are tired of living this way and you are ready to develop more compassion and empowerment to support yourself so that you can start feeling better, lighter, and more free.

I specialize in trauma and anxiety and have extensive training in trauma informed treatments such as EMDR, TFCBT, and ART (accelerated resolution therapy).
Finding a therapist that you can relate to may be the most important part of therapy. My goal is to create an environment where you feel safe and supported, so that you can open up and get the most out of your sessions. Sometimes starting this process can seem a little overwhelming. Maybe you're not sure where to begin with all of this. Maybe you're feeling a little anxious, or perhaps you suffer from "analysis paralysis." I've been there myself, and I'm here to help.

I have completed the Suicide Bereavement Loss Clinician Training through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and I am also a certified EMDR therapist for the treatment of trauma.
The pain of grief can be overwhelming and unbearable at times. The loss of a loved one is probably one of the most difficult situations that we will experience in life, especially if you are struggling with symptoms of complicated grief, such as intense feelings of guilt or responsibility, nightmares or disturbing images, or extreme emotional dysregulation that interferes with your daily functioning. Sometimes thoughts, images and emotions have us "stuck" in our grief journey, and we need help working through these issues...

Together we will evaluate and process the effects of identified distressing and life-changing moments that continually impact your life negatively; whether through EMDR or other trauma-centered practices.
So, you've notice that "just making" it is no longer working, and you're exhausted with catering to the beliefs of others on how you should "show up". Let’s not forget how you have been working hard to manage your anxiousness and moods, while fighting the frustrations of life. Maybe you are having difficulty concentrating or remaining focused, and as a result you find yourself in isolation, while feeling that no one cares. As you live with thoughts that are overwhelming & cause anxiety about life, it may feel easier to give up. Please don't. There is hope. Contact me to see what hope can look like authentically.

David has received training in EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Sand Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
We often hear, "Life is a journey." I believe this thought is the foundation of all that we do, as there are many experiences that are instrumental in shaping the course of your life. At times, a different course might be better. In counseling, there is guidance in understanding the 'direction' of your life and living according to your values. When the course of our life is at odds with our values there are depression, anxiety, and/or family issues. Let me help today, let your journey begin anew.

If past traumas feel like a heavy weight, my approach with EMDR offers a chance to repackage your painful memories and discover your inner strength.
Are you over the feeling of being stuck in your head and tired all the time from your mind running in too many directions? Sometimes this looks like anxiety, stress, irritability, amoung many others; however, it could also be underlying trauma. Trauma comes in many forms and looks different for each person because of our bodys' various responses to outside experiences. We don't get a say in whether we want to take on an event as traumatic or not, but we do have the power to overcome what happens to us and find our purpose and meaning in life again.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
