Are you feeling stressed, overwhelmed with life, exhausted, anxious, or depressed? Have you experienced a stressful or traumatic life event? Perhaps you struggle with a chronic illness. Maybe you struggle with a difficult child or teen. Or maybe your partner has been unfaithful. Are you tired of feeling isolated and hopeless? You want- no, you need- things to change, but you don’t where to begin. Asking for help can be one of the most difficulty things to do, but I would be honored to help you discover your inner strength and begin your journey to healing and being who you are meant to be.

I am passionate about working with clients who yearn for a deeper understanding of themselves and their interpersonal relationships. Neural connections run deep and incredibly strong making our behavior patterns habitual and passive, often unbeknownst to us. If you’re interested in realizing yourself, cultivating awareness of self and others, and living more authentically, we may be a good fit for each other.

Our goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. We all experience moments that leave us feeling hopeless, sad, frustrated, angry, or frightened. However, life is not meant to be lived in that place of darkness. While we can't change the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. Using complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will help unearth old behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. If you're ready to take steps forward, we are ready to help.

I believe that the most important factor of successful treatment starts with establishing a genuine therapeutic relationship. I have over 20 years of experience working with children, adults and families with co-occurring disorders, and the expectation is that each client is treated with dignity and respect. There is a higher calling on my life to serve people and this combines with education, training and life experience to better connect with others while assisting in the healing process.

Whatever it is that has prompted you to seek the support of a therapist at this time, I commend you for taking such an important first step. I see this as a sign of strength, and a commitment to address the challenges and obstacles you are currently facing. Having been in my own counseling at pivotal times throughout my life, I have a deep respect for the therapeutic process. It is only through vulnerability and authentic connection that we can truly cultivate the best versions of ourselves, and the counseling process provides a powerful vehicle for doing so. It would be my honor to assist you in this capacity.

Our work is dedicated to helping ALL people develop healthy, satisfying, productive, and meaningful lives. Though it can be difficult to make the decision to begin therapy, we have found that those who have sought help and take responsibility for their emotional heath and relationships have achieved remarkable results. People come to us for a variety of reasons: they may be in transition, experiencing work stress, grieving a loss, struggling with religious or family ideals which no longer suit them, a new parent experiencing anxiety. Some have begun to feel daily life is stagnant, seeking more direction and purpose in their lives.

6:07am. Remembering that you have already hit snooze seven times is not motivating you to get out of the bed to go about your day. Fear and doubt fill your morning as the reality of present events hits you where you feel it the most. "I have powered through this before" has become your mantra but deep inside you want a change. The past few days you have completed through sheer willpower. You are open to change; you just do not know what it is just yet. Is there any hope? You ask yourself.

Chronic Illness Therapists

How does therapy for chronic illness work?

Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?

Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?

No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?

There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
