Perhaps an unhealthy relationship has left you feeling broken but yearning to reconnect.
Have you been thinking that maybe it would be easier if you just weren't here anymore? It's awful, isn't it? Well, if you are going through hell... keep going. You made it this far. And even though it may seem like things will never get better, I'm here to listen, validate, and help you find a way out.

Infidelity? Porn addiction? Sex addiction? Trauma? These issues can be tough to deal with, but I can help. I have specialized training so that you're not wasting your time and money. Not just talk, talk, talk that gets you nowhere. I used evidence-based treatments so that you're feeling better soon. As a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), a Certified Partner Trauma Therapist (CPTT), and a Certified Multiple Addiction Therapist (CMAT), I'm trained in many addictions and compulsive behavior, as well as substance addictions. Most therapists aren't trained in all these issues. I offer EMDR trauma therapy, as well. There is hope.

Anxiety, depression and relationship dysfunction originate in the same way that trauma does--adverse events and trapped negative energy.
People are complex and sometimes need help sorting through difficulties. Do you find yourself stuck in a pattern--a relationship malfunction or an unhealthy life-style--which you have tried to change, and cannot? The key to unlocking the process of change is to develop awareness of the underlying meanings behind these patterns, the "the how and why" of the patterns. When you compassionately understand how your implicit beliefs inform your actions and experience, you can help your system heal. All parts of your system need conscious connection with you, It is designed to heal. My role is to facilitate that natural process.

In coming to therapy, I believe that client’s are taking a brave step in prioritizing their mental health and wellness and we will partner to work towards healing.
Thank you for considering working with me as your counselor. I work individually and in groups with adolescents, adults, couples and families. I approach counseling from a person-centered theoretical background, meaning I believe that each person has within themselves the tools to grow, change, heal and improve. It is my goal to help individuals access those personal resources and grow in their personal self-efficacy. Self-awareness and self-efficacy, while goals in the counseling relationship, are difficult to achieve and will take time, energy, and client engagement. Clients will feel that they are able to face life's challenges.

I use evidence-based practices in our sessions that research shows have been effective; such as CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness to help clients struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship concerns, familial discord, gender identity concerns, substance use /misuse and emotional dysregulation.
Congratulations, you have officially taken the first step in prioritizing your mental health! Therapy can be a vulnerable place, but it is in your vulnerability that you find the biggest strengths within yourself! I aim to offer you a safe space while we work together to improve your mental well-being through processing your emotions, thoughts, and feelings. People often feel that they do not have a place to go that allows them to be completely vulnerable, so let me be that space for you! I have experience in working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, LGBTQIA+ and college students. I also have training in Subtle Yoga.

Hello and welcome! Here’s what you need to know about me: I received a Master of Arts from Appalachian State University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, concentrating in Addictions Counseling. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate and am working towards becoming a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist Associate. What does all of that mean? I have the formal training to provide counseling. I also hold marginal identities that have led to my own lived experiences with counseling; I know how hard this work can be.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
