As a therapist, I provide a safe, supportive and non-judgmental place and help clients develop new insights, perspectives, and skills, which enable them to manage life’s challenges more effectively, both now and the future.
Life can be stressful. The de mands we, as well as others, place upon us can steal our peace and happiness and leave us feeling overwhelmed. Often, we struggle to achieve some sense of balance while simultaneously feeling confused and discouraged. Anxiety, depression and trauma can affect every aspect of our lives – relationships, family life, work, schooling, even self-care and physical well-being. Therapy offers a time away from daily life and provides a comfortable place to reflect and regain a healthy perspective for living life fully.

You are struggling with a negative self-concept coexisting with a high level of anxiety that is more likely the result of irrational negative thoughts. The issues present interfere with daily functioning and pleasurable activities. For example, despite regular positive feedback, you might feel defective because of a single benign criticism, which causes overwhelming anxiety at the thought of being exposed. Engaging with others becomes a daily struggle. You might need help changing your thoughts and feelings about yourself, enhancing self-esteem, and building self-confidence to improve your quality of life.

Waitlist for new clients
The typical clients I work with are like you and me, usually have successful careers, have a faith orientation, although not always, and have a tremendous longing to find, repair, or revitalize something gone wrong in themselves or in relationship with those closest. They are individuals and couples who are hurting at their core, who want more than just a quick fix, a few techniques, or merely a listening ear. They want answers, real, deep, transforming answers. They realize deep down that it is probably going to take longer than they want or expect. But, they are longing and willing to do whatever it takes to get to a better place

Thanks for showing up here. By doing the work to even navigate to this page, you are taking a huge step for yourself. We all have thoughts, feelings, & behaviors that keep us stuck in patterns that don’t always serve us or our loved ones well. The great news is that these patterns are learned from a variety of experiences, meaning they can also be un-learned with concentrated effort and a willingness to change. Therapy can be a liberating space where those patterns are examined and new perspectives that better serve us are developed over time. This work requires immense vulnerability, but this is often not a starting point.

Sometimes our current way of being ourselves feels stuck. Perhaps something in you feels unhealed, unwell, dead, or disconnected, incapable, or inaccessible. There are innumerable ways to speak of a rich and fulfilling life, but I believe one thing required is a feeling a wholeness and integration in our way of being. Trauma, pain, shame, stuck patterns of disconnection – there can be many obstacles to a thriving way of being ourselves. If you can relate to this, I say with compassion: “Welcome!" I work with individuals and couples who want to cultivate deeper connection and fulfillment in life.

We are told by academia and media that men are inevitably and essentially toxic - that their instincts lead to difficulties and conflict.
On a long enough timeline, anyone can sort themselves out. Time is precious, however, so make the most of yours by reaching your goals more effectively with a therapist. People consulting with me are seeking deeper satisfaction at work and in their relationships, and through our conversations, they can better find their place in their career, speak up more effectively, and connect more deeply with those they love. I have a focus on men's issues, which can be helpful not only for the men with whom I work, but also for wo men who want a better understanding of themselves and the men in their lives.

I can help with relationships issues, depression, anxiety, and life/work balance. I have been helping people recover from substance abuse problems and addictions for many years, finding this work very rewarding. I am a firm believer in the Twelve Step model of recovery. I prefer taking an active approach in helping people resolve the issues for which they come to me. This will include specific steps to take between sessions. In believing that each person's story and situation is unique, I tailor my approach to the individual or couple.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
