My sessions utilize a variety of techniques with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ( CBT).
I firmly believe in two core tenets to therapy: no judgment and confidentiality. I strive to make you feel comfortable enough to share your challenging experiences and thoughts. I see a variety of clients with a focus on depression, anxiety, PTSD, moral injury, and gender dysphoria. I have a passion for working with the military community as I am a former paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division (AATW). Additionally, I have a passion for supporting marginalized and vulnerable communities to include the LGBTQ+ communities.

I utilize multiple therapy styles to include CBT, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR trained), and solution-focused and motivational interviewing.
The chance to be heard and seen with warmth and compassion is what I strive to provide in my therapy sessions. We’ll work together at a pace that you are comfortable with in a collaborative conversation that validates your life experiences. It may take some time to build trust but my hope is that you can speak unfiltered about whatever life circumstances have brought you to therapy.

My philosophy is that we all have innate value and skills that often are overlooked, but, when fully utilized, can put us on a path to be our best and happiest selves. I use a combination of a few theories, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Existential Theory, & Solution Focused.

Therapeutic approaches I use most frequently include, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy.
Life in general, can be challenging. I believe in the healing power of telling your story in a judgement-free environment where you feel safe. Research consistently shows it is the quality of the therapeutic relationship, more than any other factor including the method of therapy, predicting the clients’ ability to use therapy to help themselves and make positive life changes. Therapy does not always solve the problems brought to it, but the best chance for success is when there is a strong therapeutic relationship. To me, the critical foundation of our counseling relationship is a partnership based on mutual respect and honesty.

I pull from person centered, cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral and acceptance and commitment theories.
Many people can be too hard and not kind enough to themselves. Life is difficult enough, and not being on their own side through their struggles makes it even more so. Whether you’re new to therapy or have some experience with it, starting with a new therapist can be overwhelming. I invite you to a warm, inviting space where you are able to show your full self. I tend to use a holistic and integrative approach. Your sessions are your time and I will meet you where you’re at while providing a therapist viewpoint.

I offer a person-centered approach and incorporate skills of CBT, TF- CBT, ACT, and other modalities.
Often, people experience stress and anxiety if they believe they do not live up to others' expectations. It can feel extremely isolating if you think you are outside of the "normal". I believe that "normal" is subjective, and that there is no standard "normal". I enjoy working with clients who are wanting to embrace the parts of themselves that they've been conditioned to keep private. I see strength in vulnerability. I think there is so much to be said for a person who is able to acknowledge the pain that they've been through. Without doing so, it can be difficult to learn, heal, and grow.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
