One Christmas season it had rained a lot. I attempted to circle my yard with my car to slide out of my drive way, and I got stuck. The more I tried to get out the more stuck I became. Finally, I had to do what I was dreading and call a tow truck to get me out of my own yard! Well, sometimes in life, we get stuck in our own mud, and we have to call help to get us out.

There are a lot of individuals who struggle with anxiety, relationship challenges, and depression. They spend most of their days feeling stressed out and overwhelmed by the demands of life. They may often find themselves feeling overwhelmed and drained from giving to everyone else and not having the time or skills to care for themselves. What’s really keeping them up at night is that they know something’s wrong, but they don’t know what it is and they don't know how to fix it. I’m Katlyn Davis, a licensed clinical mental health counselor, and I believe you have the power to grow and I want to support you through the journey.

I completed my PhD in clinical psychology with a focus on evidence-based treatment for substance use and addiction, including harm reduction strategies for people who want to develop a healthier approach to using substances.
I have current openings for individuals and couples, with three primary areas of specialty: 1) substance use, 2) trauma, and 3) relationship difficulties. I also help patients with other concerns such as depression and anxiety. My goal is to help you nonjudgmentally understand how you developed patterns that are not working for you now, and to use evidence-based strategies to help you meet your goals. I will help you feel safe and supported discussing sensitive topics while also giving you the structure and accountability needed to make meaningful changes. I use approaches that have been shown to be effective through research.

Additionally, as a veteran of the US Air Force, I also truly enjoy helping service members, families, and the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as those with substance use.
Immediate daytime availability virtually on Monday through Thursday. There are many obstacles life may throw at us. Often these obstacles are unexpected and throw us off our desired path. Sometimes it may even feel that we have lost our way and our original path is out of sight, unable to be found. You may start to feel defeated or overwhelmed by what to do next. But with a little help, there is hope that you can rediscover your path or create an even better one!

I am so glad you are looking to start therapy. The searching can be so confusing and frustrating, so I recognize that you are taking a big and emotional step. My name is Lauren and I am passionate about my work with individuals who have a history of trauma, substance use, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, ADHD, mood-disorders, and BPD. I enjoy being able to encourage my clients as they become more aware of their strengths and unique qualities. It's not often we have unconditional support from others which is why counselors often help us navigate our way towards self-acceptance and self-love.

I am a relationally and present moment-based therapist. This means we will work from a framework that everything (past/present/future) can be addressed by exploring the relationship you have with it in "right now". My role is to be a guide you on your path of wellness.

Historically, I have worked mostly with adolescents confronting issues with anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and self-esteem, while in an outpatient setting. However, I have also worked with adults ranging from 21-60+ dealing with substance use issues. As a school counselor, I’ve worked with elementary aged children, dealing with a range of issues. I am confident in my ability to serve each of the listed populations. If you or your child have goals to become the best version of yourself, learn to confront ongoing mental health struggles, and desire to learn to live at your best “post”-pandemic, please reach out to me.

With a background in various settings like outpatient care, hospitals, and corrections facilities, I’ve refined my expertise in treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
I am committed to helping individuals overcome mental health and substance use challenges by fostering resilience and mental agility. I believe that many emotional struggles arise from the tension between our rational thoughts and deeply ingrained life experiences. By promoting mental flexibility, I guide my clients in harmonizing these aspects to achieve emotional well-being. My approach is rooted in meeting you where you are, establishing a foundation of trust, and working collaboratively to navigate your unique journey toward a healthier, more balanced life.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
