Hello and welcome! I understand how difficult it is to ask for help. My goal is to create a safe space for you to be you- to just be human. Whether you are dealing with the shame of substance use issues, sexual identity concerns, or childhood traumas, I offer space for you to be vulnerable. What I do not provide is judgment. I offer acceptance. I believe we all heal through connection. I am here to support you through your individual journey- whatever that looks like. We can lay the burdens down together. You are not alone.

Hello, my name is Bob Risavi and I am a licensed clinical social worker. I work with adults from 21 to 100. I try to help them cope with and solve problems within their everyday lives. To do this I use several styles of therapy depending on the individual and their particular needs. There is no such thing as a one size fits all strategy. For example CBT therapy is very effective with many patients but psychodynamic therapy may be more effective for other individuals depending on circumstance. The bottom line is, I shape the therapy sessions with you to yield your desired result the best way possible.

Everyone has a story. . . of joy and sorrow, love and sadness, wounds and healing. Everyone's story is sacred and waiting to be discovered. But often we struggle to read our story because of depression, anxiety, past pains, or relational difficulties. My vision is to enable people to experience God's powerful grace in order to live in true freedom, transformation and discovery. I provide a pathway for people struggling on the journey to find hope for their broken hearts, healing for their wounds, and a hiding place to wrestle with the grace of God.

When I started working in therapy, I often worked with people who felt “stuck”. Stuck in the rudimentary day-to-day life, cycle of unhealthy patterns, or struggling to cope after a tragedy. It seemed as though traditional talk therapy just wasn’t helping, no matter how many different things we tried. Clients were wanting something deeper, a more meaningful experience. A lot of people felt hopeless. Then… I saw the same individuals interact with horses. And that's when the magic happened. I knew the transformative healing that could happen through equine therapy.

I have experience providing both brief and long-term counseling for a wide variety of issues including anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, substance and alcohol use, relationship stress, trauma and PTSD, and more.
Counseling is a voluntary and collaborative process. This requires that you be actively involved and willing to set and work toward specific goals. Counseling is a tool that individuals can use to deal with problems in a way that is best for that individual. Your counselor cannot “fix,” “cure,” or “heal” you in any way. However, unconditional acceptance, listening and understanding, professional expertise, and honest communication can help you reach your goals to achieving a happier, healthier life!

I have dedicated my professional career to supporting adult women struggling with alcohol use, anxiety, low self-worth, and life transitions.
Have you ever said “ I will never drink again” only to find yourself drinking again? Do you find yourself hiding bottles? Going to different stores each day to buy alcohol? Does your drinking cause shame and guilt? Are you feeling isolated, alone, misunderstood? Are you stuck in the same patterns of behavior? Have you tried to solve the problems in your life on your own and realized you need help from someone else? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you have made the right choice by being here. Together we can work to help equip you with the necessary tools to help you face and overcome your challenges.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
