My professional experience has been working with adolescents, college students, adults, working on various issues, and wanting someone to help them in the journey. No one lives life without going through something that makes them question whether they can work through it on their own. This is the very place God has for us to come to him and his strength. I have personally experienced a few of these, and have been given a calling for helping others in theirs. My practice aims to shine light on the purpose we have on this earth, and walking with you to uncover the roots of why you struggle.

Do you have something on your mind? There are times when we all have thoughts running through our minds. Thoughts related to family, friends, relationships, school, love, spirituality, money, work, or happiness. Sometimes they are memories from your past that you're unable to let go. Maybe you can't sleep, maybe you can't eat. Maybe you have lost your purpose, who you are, what you're doing or why. It could be big, or just a small thing you want to let go. These situations can slow you down and pull your life to a stop.

Sometimes we can feel as if on a mountaintop with a sense of clarity and other times in a valley unable to see the next step. Life is a journey with experiences and seasons where we can all use some help along the way. Whether it be marriage, dating, work, friendships, or family dynamics, relationships can be complex. Through life's complexities we can learn and grow. I believe everyone deserves to experience joy and live an abundant life. By living authentically to ourselves and others we can become the best version of ourselves. My desire is to meet you where you are and collaboratively work with you to reach your full potential.

I believe we all possess the ability to change our circumstances. Grounded in a deeply humanistic and psychodynamic framework- I work with individuals as they detangle themselves from the scars of their past and the unhelpful narratives that result.
There is no need to struggle alone, and yet we often do. Our suffering may appear in many different forms, from depression and anxiety, to relationship issues, substance use and more. It’s time to shed this idea that “we have to have it all together” and allow ourselves be human for a moment. In this honest space, my clients tend to become more in touch with their authentic selves and establish beliefs, values, narratives and take steps towards a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

I approach clinical practice from a humanistic and interpersonal theoretical model.
For many people, choosing to seek counseling can be a difficult decision. I believe it takes a lot of courage to reach out for guidance and support, which is why I strive to respect client's autonomy, beliefs, and values in the process of counseling. Counseling is the process of discovering your true self and gaining the courage to seek your own path in life. My role is to facilitate this process using a variety of techniques based in a strong therapeutic relationship.

This quote by Carl Rogers, a leader in humanistic psychology, puts words to a key piece of the therapy process - “It is the client who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial, what experiences have been deeply buried…” I believe that feeling seen, heard, and understood can sometimes help make what might feel an unbearable burden, a little bit lighter. I hold reverence for each client and their journey as it unfolds during the therapy process.

I use a humanistic approach in my work with others.
Stress and suffering are both undeniable aspects of the human experience. Many humans choose to deny, avoid, and repress emotion as a survival tactic. "I can't handle this. I'm overreacting." (Nice try, brain, but invalidation and avoidance actually tend to make things worse for us in the long run- the emotions we try to run from grow). I am passionate about empowering others to live authentically and wholeheartedly- in alignment with their goals and values. My approach is very direct, while also being warm, validating, and compassionate. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety disorders in adolescents (13+) and young adults.

I incorporate humanistic principles, mindfulness-based practices, emotionally focused individual therapy, and Somatic Experiencing techniques all within a trauma-informed framework to support your growth and capacity to change how you respond to your experience.
We are living in trying times and for many it can feel like it's hard to find the good in our communities, our world, and in ourselves. If you are looking to find inner resilience to navigate personal and/or societal challenges, I can help support you as you discover resources and a wisdom you never know you had. My goal is to help you find an ability to meet chaos with creativity, worry with calm and contentment, pain with personal resolution, helplessness with sustainable action, and fragmentation with a balanced view of life that leads towards a more integrated past, present, and hopeful future.

Adolescence can be a rocky time for many people, but I believe therapy can be of great help. I work with teenagers and young adults, struggling primarily with mood, identity, and impulse control difficulties. My goals are to help young people build their strengths and relationships in order to find happiness and success as emerging adults. Some of the things I treat are: depression, self-harm, anxiety, family conflict, gender dysphoria, transition to young adulthood stress, and disordered eating habits. Generally I practice cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectal-behavior therapy (DBT) within a caring, humanistic approach.

My approach to therapy integrates existential-humanistic counseling, acceptance and commitment therapy, EMDR, somatic awareness, mindfulness, breath-work, and yoga.
Life can become overwhelming, overstimulating, and heavy. You may carry grief, sorrow, anger, stress, and worry in your mind and body. Maybe you experience waves in life where you lose your sense of self, your connection to the world around you, and you may lose meaning or hope during those difficult seasons. I seek to provide guidance for those who are open to the process of self-discovery and healing. My experience lies in working with CPTSD, PTSD, chronic stress, depression, anxiety, self-identity, life transitions, and spiritual concerns. I am passionate about providing gender affirming and culturally sensitive care.

My primary clinical influences are Gestalt therapy, Buddhist/mindfulness-based therapy, EMDR, and humanistic therapy.
I bring over a decade of experience to my practice, where I work with a wide range of struggles. I bring special expertise to self-image/self-esteem issues, trauma, and grief. As a holistic practitioner, I don’t limit my focus to treating symptoms or replacing behaviors. I work with body, spirit, heart, and gut, offering a space where you can step into a transformed relationship with yourself. I go underneath strategies and tools to help you develop inner resources, listen to your body and nervous system, let go of what no longer serves you, and bring new energy and clarity to your most important connections.

Humanistic Therapists

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
