I use a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy ( CBT), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to address traumatic events with the goal of formulating improved personal insight and awareness.
A colleague once told me that sometimes you just have to validate your client by saying "life sucks". Hi, welcome, I am happy you are here! I have been working in the field of mental health for over 20 years. My experience includes a variety of work settings, including community mental health, school guidance, contract mental health and private practice. Along with my psychiatric facility dog RUPP, I use an integrated, person-centered approach to therapy that first establishes therapeutic rapport to determine goals and objectives.

You find yourself relating a little “too” much to the new Taylor Swift album. You have always considered yourself the awkward friend. That is, if you even believe you have “true” friends. You have BIG feelings and have been reminded that you’re too emotional, too dramatic, or too much your entire life. You question everything you say to someone the second you leave the conversation. You find yourself overthinking even the smallest action, like how you greeted the individual in the drive-thru at Starbucks. You think to yourself, “oh my gosh, I can’t believe I said that, they probably think I’m SO weird.”

I work with individuals ages 16 - 65+ who are struggling with anxiety and post traumatic stress symptoms. I particularly enjoy working with anyone impacted by the foster care system, individuals who have sustained childhood trauma, as well as active duty military, veterans, first responders, and people of Christian faith, especially those who have experienced spiritual abuse or religious harm. It is my passion to help people pursue healing through a mind-body approach that regulates the nervous system. This allows you to no longer live in a chronic state of fight, flight, or freeze.

NOT ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS AT THIS TIME. My passion is driven by my work with people who struggle with trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction, codependency, low self-worth, women's issues, and toxic relationships. I also have a special place in my heart for working with counselors who are committed to improving their own self-care and emotional health. My hope is that by providing a safe, compassionate and non-judgmental space, people will know that they are being heard and what they say matters.

Online Counseling is a process by which therapeutic change can occur in an environment where there is trust, empathy, and understanding. Within that context of the relationship clients are able to find their inner strengths, gain self-awareness, challenge irrational beliefs, discover individualized coping skills. The typical length of the counseling relationship depends on the nature of the issues. Every client is unique and there is no particular timeline for improvement or change unless the clients insurance allows only for a limited number of sessions with which the client will be notified prior to therapy.

Our world has changed over the past few years and it continues to be a very stressful time for us all. I would love to chat with you to see if I may be a good fit to help you navigate your own personal journey. I have had many experiences in my life that have led me into the field of mental health and substance use. I believe that there is a biological, psychological, and spiritual part of every human being and, oftentimes, these are out of balance. It is my honor to be able to assist you in finding that balance and to help you build your life worth living. I have been in practice for since 2009 and am licensed in NC & VA.
