Let’s explore together what strengths and resources already exist for you, work toward shifting your perspective when that might be appropriate, and collaborate toward building greater capacity and spaciousness to hold all the contradictions that come with being hu man.
My goal is to develop and grow an authentic connection with you so that you feel empowered to put into words what your unique experience is like. We both know that, without trust, you will not feel comfortable sharing about yourself, your life, what you are proud of, and what you are challenged by. Your goals and interests in how to use our therapeutic relationship will determine where we go in sessions, and I am comfortable using elements from several modalities, from reflective and existential to solution-focused and practical, with quite a bit in between, always through a lens of attachment and neurobiology.

Accepting New Clients: Is your dream of living happily ever after with your spouse becoming a frustrating nightmare? Does your conflict with your spouse devolve into criticism of each other? Do you feel like you are constantly defending yourself and developing feelings of contempt for your spouse? Has communication almost completely stopped? Have you or your spouse had an affair or been unfaithful by spending time, energy, and financial resources on things that do not represent the commitments you made to each other? If so, I hear you, and I have been there.

Beginning the search for a therapist can feel daunting. You've taken the first step on a path to growth, healing, and change. Through my experience and training as an educator and as a mental health professional, I have discovered the power of hu man connection and the transformation we can experience when we are seen, heard, and supported without condition or judgement. I support adolescents and adults struggling with depression, anxiety, life transitions, grief, identity, and environmental stressors, and partnered folks who feel stuck in patterns that no longer work for their relationship.

Seasons of life come and go and with each season comes new challenges. Many times, turning the page to the next chapter is difficult. While serving in pastoral ministry for over 10 years, I've had the privilege to witness many individuals and couples turn the page and experience the life that God desires for them. You can be all that God has created you to be and you can experience life abundantly. Sometimes we just need a little help reaching goals and working through situations and circumstances. I want to help you find the abundant life and turn the page to your next chapter.

I provide faith-based counseling for people who want to find help and hope for life's problems. I am glad to work with anyone age 13 and over, but I focus on adult individuals and couples. I have a special interest in counseling and coaching men. I work with people on issues of grief, anxiety, depression, self-image, marriage, pre-marital, stress, perfectionism, vocation/career, spiritual crisis, and spiritual/religious abuse. Even though I am faith-based, I can work respectfully with anyone from any background without forcing my beliefs on them.

Tired of repeating the same thing with life, feeling stuck with no hope in sight? Seems like more is going on? I focus on treating co-occurring addiction & mental health issues in addition to my work with providing psychological evaluations & testing. Not knowing why you keep doing or feeling the way you do and how to make changes in your life is beyond frustrating. It can be overwhelming, leading to feeling helpless and hopeless. When navigating the reasons for ongoing suffering and relapse, there is hope. In depth counseling and assessments can be the catalyst to promote change and I can help.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
