My therapeutic style is affirming and strength-based, and I work collaboratively with my clients to reach their goals.
With a background in social work and clinical psychology, I have been providing mental health services for more than 20 years. I am trained in Interpersonal Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and various Trauma Specific practices and am experienced in providing therapy to individuals, couples and families. While I am able to see clients presenting with various concerns, my main areas of focus include anxiety, depression, chronic stress, trauma and dealing with life adjustments.

**Not Accepting New Clients Currently** I am highly experienced with those who find themselves stuck in unproductive or damaging patterns of thinking or actions and have been unable to move forward, even with other professional help. The feedback I receive from fellow providers and clients is that I have a high success rate of treatment and recovery. I believe that outpatient psychotherapy is a process of collaboration that provides a stable, supportive environment for achieving psychological wellness. Each of us are unique and the best expert on the stressors in our daily life.

On the surface; you seem fine, but inside, you have a self-critical voice that won’t let up. You have a lot of feelings that you feel deeply. This can be a strength but it can also leave you feeling confused about why others don't see what you see. Others may have told you that you are too sensitive but you also may be the person that they come to for advice or support. Maybe you have been hesitant to try counseling because you feel that you should be able to figure this out yourself.

*Please email me for info.* Dr. Giordano's sister Maryann died in 1986 after a 3.5-year struggle with cancer. After Dr. Giordano's last cancer treatment, he began his undergraduate in psychology. Dr. Giordano is the grateful father of two adults. These and many other experiences help Dr. Giordano understand first hand the impact of living with and losing a terminally ill sibling, the effects of losing a child on parents, being diagnosed and treated for cancer, and the challenges related to marriage, divorce, remarriage, raising children, blended families, caring for aging parents, and LGBTQ issues including transgender transition.

Struggling with self-criticism, a life out-of-balance, or the past taking up too much of your present can feel lonely. Often the coping strategies that helped us survive can develop into problems themselves and figuring out the best way forward can feel overwhelming. I am honored to work alongside individuals as they discover their inner strengths and develop new, effective strategies to experience and navigate life. I work to foster self-compassion and self-worth in my practice. I really enjoy working with other therapists.

Sometimes life creates change when we aren't ready. You may find that life transitions have left you feeling differently than you expected, or you're discovering things about yourself that you aren't sure what to do with. Sometimes loved ones change in ways that challenge us, and sometimes we grow and hope our loved ones will grow with us. Sometimes LGBTQIA+ identities have specific needs, particularly for couples and families adjusting to newly expressed identities and searching for a healthy, supportive dynamic. Unfortunately, coping with these unexpected changes usually isn't a smooth, easy, or pretty process.

I'm happy to see you here! I have experience working with individuals of all ages, and particularly enjoy working through a family systems lens. My early work was in community mental health, providing therapy in individuals' homes, schools, and other treatment facilities. I have spent time working with trauma, anxiety, depression, attachment issues, generational trauma, and identity issues.

I welcome and work with adults from all backgrounds and stages of life. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming, engaged in anti-racist work, and approach my clients with empathy, nonjudgement, and respect for their strengths. As a former professor who left academia, I value supporting clients through big decisions, school or career stress, and life transitions. I view mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression, burnout, and trauma as responses to individual, social, and environmental factors, rather than 'personal' issues. Consequently, I help clients make changes in their own habits, their relationships, and their wider contexts.
