I would like to acknowledge and congratulate you on the courage required to take the steps necessary towards achieving your desired goals. The counseling process can be intimidating as it requires you to entrust your current behaviors, thoughts, feelings and concerns to a licensed professional in the hopes of relieving problematic symptoms. My goal is to assist you in this process by providing a warm and empathetic environment in which you are able to discuss, explore, and decide the direction you would like to take. My approach serves to teach you the skills and techniques to effectively identify current problems with confidence.

Therapy is not a sign that you have failed to figure it all out nor is it an indication that your marriage or relationship is over. Rather, it is the beginning of a process of getting unstuck and getting healthy. We regularly get our car serviced even though it’s not broken. We need to take care of ourselves and our relationships as well. Getting to a healthier place is a lot easier to navigate with someone who is outside of your situation.

My goal is to help clients reach their full potential beyond the chaos of everyday life. As a psychotherapist, a Cognitive-Behavioral approach is used to navigate self-exploration and real life goal setting while filtering through difficulties. Believing that your health and wellness is valuable regardless of all else allows me to provide effective therapeutic services through humor, understanding and compassion. Your story could be one of living with mental illness or maybe you have hit a rough patch filled with uncertainty. When life has given you a dump truck filled with lemons together we will make lemonade!

Working with women has been my concentration, but in the military, I worked with men, women, and children.
My life experiences have been too numerous to count. I've had loved ones die, disappointments, medical problems, divorce, betrayals, and more reasons to celebrate than I deserve. I have been extremely blessed by Jesus Christ my Savior, who is the source of all my strength. With God's help, I have accomplished things I never could have imagined. My greatest joy has been raising my three daughters. God gave me wisdom and taught me to have compassion for others in their times of struggles, trials, and difficulties. He taught me to see others through His eyes. He is my constant companion and counselor. Jesus is all the world to me.

Hi there. As a therapist, my style is warm and hopeful. I use both evidenced based practices or a faith approach depending on your preference. My time in social work began almost 20 years ago. Over the years as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have witnessed how “hurt people, hurt people”. My work is dedicated to helping individuals work through areas of their life where they may be hurting or are being hurt by someone else. My experiences as a therapist have allowed me to work with adolescents, adults, and the aging population in various professional settings.

Where do I begin? How often have we found ourselves battling with this question? So much of our time and energy is centered among all the wrong things transpiring in our world. We often can’t even touch base with a glimpse of hope because worry, anxiety, fear, and distress suffocate our existence. When asked the question, “How are you today?” have you ever felt the weight of so much despair that you can rarely designate one response to fulfill the depths and brutal truth of, “not good.” Well, you’re not alone.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
