Through research-proven methods like (EMDR and DBT) and honest conversations, we will work together to find a way forward toward rest.
Maybe you feel like taking any step is daunting. Relationships loom over your head and the world seems to be spinning around you. The pain of life seems too big to even approach and nothing you do seems to make lasting change. You want to live with hope and purpose.

I have a vast knowledge of emotionally focused evidenced-based therapies (CBT, DBT, ACT, IFS, etc), as well as an understanding of holistic methods of treatment.
Taking the step to start therapy can be difficult and filled with mixed emotions; everybody deserves the best chance in the game of life.I'm here to help you play the cards you've been dealt-just with a little more intention and strategy. I am a LCMHC, CRC, and a facilitator for MHFA. My years of experience providing individual, child/couple/family, and completing various psychological assessments allows me to keep my focus on my client, their needs, and the ebbs and flows of life. It is my hope to help the person's life become more manageable, instead of life managing the person.

DBT skills groups are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
NOTE: I am not current accepting new clients, but other Guilford Counseling therapists have openings! If past traumas are interfering with your life, if you struggle with managing your emotions, or if you have patterns of self-harm and suicidal thoughts, I'd love to meet with you. People I work with have usually tried therapy before, but found that their progress stalled out or bogged down. If that sounds familiar, reach out and give it another try.

I draw from a variety of techniques and theoretical approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, reality therapy, and rational emotive behavior therapy.
You are overwhelmed. You don't know how to keep up with the demands of life. You wonder, "how'd I get here?" You are sick and tired of being sick and tired. You want to laugh again and enjoy life again. You need a re-start, a re-focus but don't know where to begin. My clients are compassionate, kind, and motivated to help everyone else in their lives but have lost touch with themselves. They have spent so long saying yes to everyone else the idea of saying no and possibly disappointing others is crippling.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
