Everyone has times in their life that they need to talk to someone. Throughout my career, I have worked with a broad range of people-children, individuals, and couples. I understand what it is like to be in search of answers. I recognize that anxiety and stress impact families as well as individuals. My life experiences have taught me to look at each client as an individual with their own needs and strengths. I believe that therapy can help us find specific solutions to our problems- whether those struggles are internal, external, personal, or relationally oriented.

Our vision at Alderwood Psychological Services is to be a leading center for pediatric neuropsychology services in Charlotte. Recognizing that development is a complex process that involves nature and nurture, biology and environment, my goals are to assess the whole child, to suggest interventions that respect the individuality of each child and family, and to promote healthy and positive development. I have over 25 years of experience in neuropsychological testing with a special focus in working with children and adolescents with learning disorders, attention related problems, anxiety/mood challenges, and head injury.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor – Qualified Supervisor, a Board-Certified Registered Art Therapist, and a Registered Yoga Teacher with over 18 years of mental health experience. I attended Earlham College, where I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Studio Art and earned my Master’s in Art Therapy and Counseling at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I have focused the past nine years working exclusively with families and individuals of all ages living with an eating disorder in inpatient, residential, and partial hospitalization levels of care.

My practice supports gender-diverse + queer individuals with atypical ways of thinking, feeling + relating. I serve highly intellectual folks + deep thinkers. I specialize in working with "Talented & Gifted burn-out kids" who are in the process of unmasking. Many of my clients are late-diagnosed or un-diagnosed Autistic and/or ADHD. I work with hyper-sensitive, self-aware, highly anxious survivors of complex trauma who experience obsessive thoughts, mental compulsions, executive dysfunction, social withdrawal + sleep disturbances.

She has worked extensively with children, teens, and families in various school settings including early education, developmental education, and both charter and public school systems. She has also spent time in senior care, residential prisoner re-entry programs, and foster and adoptive care. Renee is an advocate for individuals and families affected by mental illness, substance abuse, and developmental disabilities.
