My journey of helping individuals and families began as a hospice social worker. I worked closely with individuals and families to provide a "total care" approach while offering guidance through the emotional process of death. Now in private practice, I have worked with many cases and continue to use the "total care" approach with each client. I welcome all individuals and find incorporating your values/beliefs in therapy is supportive of the healing process. As I share with clients, we have to embrace our past, present and future to begin the healing process.

My journey of helping individuals and families began as a child and family social worker. I worked closely with individuals and families to provide support and services to ensure all their needs were met and they had all the services available to help them thrive. I have worked as a trauma specific therapist, helping children who have had traumatic experiences learn to cope and manage their thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

I seek to build a collaborative working environment with my clients that respects the inner trouble one experiences, seeks a deeper understanding of where that comes from, and builds toward embodied vitality and self-acceptance. I work with adults and teenagers dealing with anxiety, depression, self-esteem & confidence issues, family and relationship issues, grief and loss, existential issues, life changes, and stress. Healing, growth, and change come about gradually through consistent and sustained effort; it requires learning to think, feel, act in new ways, and see oneself with new perspectives.

I have been in the helping field for over fifteen years. I work with children, adolescents, couples, & families. Working with all of these age groups has helped me to have a better worldview of how issues affect us throughout different stages of our lives. I have an integrated approach, which allows us to use the events that have hurt us over the years to actually strengthen us today. I do EMDR as well. Therapy is a process, but I am here to guide & support you through getting to a healthier you. I am full of gratitude for the opportunity I have to work with you.

Client's who work best with me are often not the clients who know exactly what they want or need in therapy, though that can be very helpful. Often they are simply people who recognise a need for help and are willing to engage in the process. You can go to any competent clinician and they should be able to support you with basic skills. What I draw out of people is not only what they want and need, but their strengths and special aspects that make them who they are in order to work through to a point where they can make healthy choice and live their "best life."

Therapy is a growth experience that can influence the way you view the world and yourself. As humans, we all experience times of discomfort and life transitions. Therapy is not only for those suffering from addiction or mental illness. It is also a way to gain skills, enhance your performance, and learn more about yourself. Barriers to becoming who you want to be can be explored in therapy and work to re-building life, relationships, and even your career.

You've tried a lot of things to try to feel better... self-care, breathing exercises, stress management, maybe you've even seen a couple of therapists. But the things you struggle with like worry, depression, anger, loneliness, self-criticism and fear that things won't ever change just keep coming back up. Maybe you've lost some relationships or turned to something harmful to make you feel temporarily better. You're not messed up or broken. At some point in life, maybe as a child, your body learned how to protect itself from hurt when you needed protection most. Time has moved on but you still feel stuck. That's where EMDR comes in.

Accepting New Clients! If you're struggling with relationships, parenthood, or emotional dysregulation, welcome :) I enjoy working with people who want to gain a greater understanding of themselves, process generational trauma, understand the difficult dynamics of adult child-parent relationships, or parenting your own children. Where we've come from tells us a lot about what we need, and I love helping people understand their "why".

I believe that effective therapy begins with a person-centered approach, recognizing the unique experiences and needs of each individual. My guiding philosophy is that one cannot help others heal without first helping oneself. This principle shapes my commitment to personal growth and self-care, enabling me to provide the best possible support to my clients.

I work with people who feel overwhelmed - by relationships, big transitions, life. They want to become more fully aware of and confident in themselves, and long to find freedom from the patterns that hold them back in life. My attachment training and relational approach tends to draw folks who are looking for support around relationships with partners, family, friends, and themselves. Many of them identify as queer, non-monogamous, and/or neurodivergent. They usually share that our work together has helped them to feel more at home in their own skin and more confident in their own strength, beauty, and wisdom.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
