I have experience working with both individuals and families and have certifications in Emotionally Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Sometimes life can feel overwhelming. Often, events planned or unplanned, can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, or stuck. The death of a loved one, a new baby, a child moving out of the house, retirement, or a general feeling of disconnection can leave us wondering, “What should I do now?” I can help you explore your patterns and beliefs to work toward a more grounded and meaningful life that is fulfilling and supportive of your most authentic self. Together, we can create a compassionate alliance to empower you to manage life’s struggles.

It's time to work through what surfaced while you were enduring incredible stress and upheaval in your world. Let's talk and see if this could be your best fit for recovery and rebuilding your resilience.

In my experience, I find that I am a good fit for clients who are interested in exploring their own internal processes, are at least mildly self-driven, and are into exploring existential truths. I've been helpful to those who deal with depression, anxiety, self-image issues/negative self beliefs, trauma, grief, and other needs.

These methods move people away from conditions such as depression, anxiety & PTSD into safer, trusting relationships, including your relationship with yourself.
People often enter therapy during times of emotional pain, uncertainty or at a time when they are seeking more meaning in their lives. Each person has within them a powerful impulse toward growth and healing. I trust that impulse and trust the therapeutic relationship to reveal your strengths, wisdom, and the next steps to your growth and healing. There is something of value in even the most difficult circumstances. When these circumstances are approached with an openness to learning, major transformations can take place. I find that the willingness to look inside yourself is a key factor in your healing.

How do we do this? We mindfully explore the impact of trauma (relational and systemic) and increase your awareness and understanding of emotions and how they impact the body.
Many of my clients find that people pleasing and trying to be perfect all the time are no longer working for them. They struggle to set boundaries, communicate assertively and get in touch with how they feel and what they need. Maybe you're tired and confused by conflicting mental health tips on social media? You need a safe and compassionate environment to dig into some of the trauma you've experienced without being overwhelmed by it. Or maybe you're a millennial parent navigating reparenting yourself while parenting your children and you need some support. My clients prefer a therapist who is warm, real and uses humor in session.

Are you tired of that voice in your head that’s telling you that you’re broken and crazy? Are you struggling to move forward after a toxic or controlling relationship? Have you ever felt betrayed, hurt, or taken advantage of by a loved one? You are not alone. Destructive, controlling relationships can leave us feeling disconnected from our friends, our families, and even ourselves. Left unaddressed, the lingering effects of past trauma can touch every area of our lives. But suffering is not a life sentence, and what is broken can be put back together even stronger, braver and more resilient than before.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
