I utilize a lot of CBT, psychodynamic, and emotion focused therapy but ultimately strive to find the best fit for each individual.
I am passionate about helping women navigate major life transitions such as getting married, entering motherhood, changing careers, moving, or processing the ending of a relationship. It is easy to lose ourselves when taking on a new role and I love helping women reconnect with who they truly are and find joy again. In addition to treatment for anxiety, depression, and life transitions, I offer the unique focus of career counseling. I really enjoy helping others find true fulfillment in their vocations, as I have found that many mental health and relationship challenges often stem from an unhealthy work life.

My work is based on the understandings of attachment theory, psychodynamic theory, mindfulness, and select principles of CBT.
So many of us feel stuck in life. Burdened by the weight of our personal history, and constrained by our fears and self-doubts about the future, it can feel increasingly constricted. We struggle to find our bearings as we're confronted with the consequences of prior choices, many that don't make sense to us when we look back at them. Therapy allows you to slow down, to lay everything out before you. It's a chance to honestly and compassionately address the parts of self you'd like to change and to remember and reclaim the parts of self you've lost, particularly the ones that made you feel alive to the possibilities of what could be.

I utilize many modalities to facilitate healing including psychodynamic, process-experiential, cognitive-behavioral, dialectical behavioral, narrative, interpersonal, and expressive approaches.
At some point during the complex journey of life we all experience stuck points, emotional suffering, and sometimes an emotional crisis. It my deeply held belief, however, that we all have the innate ability to recover, heal and thrive. Providing an environment that facilitates healing and resilience is tremendously life-affirming work. I trust that each one of us has tremendous wisdom and strength. In partnership, we identify growth areas, goals, and strategies. Although it is essential that therapy is nurturing and nourishing, it is also hard work. I admire anyone who has the courage to push themselves out of their comfort zones.

I work with adult individuals. Every individual is unique, and every couple reflects the uniqueness of the individuals - I tailor my therapeutic approach to the issues that the individual presents, and, if he or she is in a significant relationship, how those issues may be reflected and resolved in the relationship with another. I draw on the person's strengths for solutions not only for their own issues but within the context of relating to others. Psychotherapy is a partnership between the patient and the therapist that fosters problem-solving and growth as an individual and within a relationship.

Life can present challenges, some we live with every day, and others seem to come out of nowhere. Maybe life doesn't follow along a path we've spent years creating and working toward. The business of living can begin to feel like a grind, and simple tasks may create exhaustion, fear, and uncertainty. Unresolved and painful childhood memories seem to revisit out of nowhere, and even though you've worked and wished, or prayed about the pain, the pain lingers. We often resign ourselves to perceiving life as a chore instead of a joyful experience, which can lead to a lack of fulfillment and even chronic illness.

Lemon (therapy assistant pictured in photo) and I are accepting new clients in 2024! I’m not your typical talk-therapist. I am dynamic in the sense that I’ve been trained in many different evidenced-based models, theories, and techniques, but the therapy that I provide derives from what is needed most by the client sitting in front of me. I’m fun, energetic and real. I don’t mind being direct when necessary, and I think it’s okay to sometimes disclose information about myself;after all, the passion and interest that I have for helping others is directly related to my lived experience of trying to ground myself in an unsettled world.

What would it be like if you regained a sense of calmness or efficacy in your life, or if those you cared about did the same? Whether you are a parent, a couple, a young adult, or a teen, life can be overwhelming at times, especially if you have difficulty with ADHD, Autism, Social Anxiety, or Giftedness. Sometimes, people turn to video game addiction, conflict avoidance, procrastination, school avoidance or other habits as a means of coping. Clients often find that the best way to get help is to start with a simple phone call, and I am happy to explore the fit with you, coming from a place of complete non judgement.

In times like these it can feel like you’re losing a lot: losing hope, losing sleep, losing control. But pain can be productive. Struggles can be opportunities to see what we're made of. They can also be the impetus to make changes we've been putting off, maybe out of fear that they would upset the balance we work so hard to maintain. Right now during this pandemic, it's hard to find one thing in our lives that hasn't changed and there are so many unknowns. It can be very difficult to persevere when you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel and when your usual outlets for support and coping are now limited.

It's time to get up, but the day ahead feels too overwhelming. You've missed out on so much, and you worry what will happen next and what everyone will think. You feel powerless to change, and you’re so tired of trying things that don’t work. No one understands why you can’t just move forward, and you may feel completely alone. I want you to know that you’re not crazy, and things don't have to be like this forever. My clients report a deeper level of healing as they feel more connected to their bodies, experience more ease in their daily lives, and re-discover their strength and resilience.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
