Do you have a child or adolescent who is dealing with big emotions? Does your child struggle with anxiety, depression, or other aspects of their mental health? Is your child showing some behavioral problems in school or at home? It can be incredibly difficult watching your child struggle. It’s often just as difficult for children and adolescents to communicate those struggles to others. That’s where I would like to help.

Hiya! I am Dr. Ashley N. Nash; thank you for your visit. The mantra that I mirror in my personal and professional life is to "be the person that I needed when I was younger." As a trauma survivor turned trauma therapist, I enjoy working with teens, young adults, and adults in individual and small-group settings. At any stage of our lives, we can begin to question our identities and how they fit into the rest of the world while remaining true to ourselves. I believe that change is one of the only constant things in the world, and I have a desire to assist others during their changing seasons.

I have great faith in “the power of story,” and find it is of great benefit for clients to be able to tell their stories in a safe, accepting, non-judgmental setting. This helps to get things “out of our heads and into the light” where we can examine them, test their validity, and help us come to terms with the true versions of ourselves (versus the “the “edited” version we often present to the outer world). The ability to “say things out loud” in a safe place is, in itself, often therapeutic.

In many settings and conversations mental health is a hot topic and now considered just as important as physical health. What’s even more fascinating to me is how celebrities like Bishop T. D. Jakes, Taraji P. Henson, Kanye West, Beyonce and so many others are shedding light on the importance of mental health. Now counselors are being called upon more than ever to provide treatment for individuals who are suffering from depression and anxiety. As a counselor I am thrilled to know that so many people are taking the time and addressing these issues. However, there are some people who are still struggling with asking for help.

Feeling constantly at odds with yourself is exhausting. You're tired of the self-critical, worried thoughts that go through your head and the shame that rises up inside of you. You worry about how other people perceive you and if they can accept you for who you are. Sometimes it feels the only thing you can do is try harder to perfect your image, personality, or work, but you always end up feeling like you've missed the mark in some way. You wish that you could feel at peace with yourself and in your relationship with others- it would be amazing to feel some relief from the anxiety that often leaves you feeling overwhelmed.

For so many of us, the past several years of pandemic and political unrest have taken a serious toll on our well-being, our mental health, our sense of belonging, and even our faith in humanity itself. In order for us to figure out how to navigate the tension between the world’s brokenness and its wholeness, I believe we first have to learn to navigate that tension within ourselves. As a therapist, I’m privileged to get to journey alongside people who are engaging in that work and to help my clients develop and access whatever tools and strategies will be most effective for them in their unique circumstances.

Life can be filled with so much beauty but depression, anxiety and just negative life experiences can blind us from it all. I get it, but don't forfeit hope. I know some days feel empty and fogged. Maybe you're uncontrollably worried or fearful? Maybe you feel like you can't escape your past or truly love yourself. Whatever it may be, I am here to help you pierce through the darkness. There is peace, purpose, joy and wonder on the other side of this.

Ideal clients will understand they are the expert in their own lives; I am merely here to walk alongside them in their journey. Common issues include previous trauma (e.g. sexual abuse, interpersonal violence), anxiety, depression, and chronic stress. Goals range from decreasing levels of anxiety and depression to eliminating intrusive traumatic memories and nightmares. Coming to therapy without a "real" goal is absolutely okay too! We can work together to figure out what is realistic for your circumstances.
