Asking for help and seeking treatment can be difficult for many! You're longing to feel more understood, less isolated, and more at home in your body and self. Maybe society has forced you to internalize messages such as "Get over it," “Don’t be so sensitive,” and "you shouldn't feel this way." There is enough space for ALL of your feelings and experiences here; all parts of you are welcome. You are worthy of care and compassion. My goal is never to convince you or change you- after all, you hold the most wisdom and knowledge about your body and what has happened in your life.

Do you feel overwhelmed? Do you wish that you could change the past? Are you anxious about things on the horizon? Do you need help moving forward because you simply feel stuck? Are you a parent whose child is dealing with issues that they either won't share or that you struggle to help them with? For over eight years I've helped people experience a better quality of life that answered yes to one or all of these questions. My passions are assisting parents with expanding their coping repertoire, helping couples and families hear each other, and assisting children in finding their voices after traumatic events.

Hello! I'm so glad you're here. Some say, "Grow where you are planted." However, it takes recognizing when you have outgrown or need to adjust your soil level (e.g., environmental or internal changes) to thrive. I offer clients the space to sort out what they desire in their life or need (e.g., sunlight) to move into more nurturing soils. Taking inventory of what you need in life is not a diss to the folks you love, but instead, allowing yourself the opportunity to live most fully.

Accepting VA, NC, SC, and GA clients. Individually and globally, we are living in the most challenging of times. Anxiety is high. The stress is almost overwhelming. The advice is inconsistent. You may be grieving an unbearable loss. Your most valued relationships might feel strained. You need a soft place to land...a place to talk...a place to process life...a place to sort through your emotions and thoughts and choices...and someone who understands how important your Christian faith is to you. We all need a little extra help and support now and then. And there's no shame in that! Sometimes, you just need to clear your head.

As you find yourself stepping into a new journey, it's easy to also find yourself overwhelmed with all of your "hats" that seem to be any combination of marriage, divorce, career changes, grief, or parenthood. So many of our daily habits are shaped around how our bodies respond to stress, past trauma, and unhealthy coping patterns, yet all of our roles leave us with little time actually to deal with them. Our time together could give you time to sit with all of YOU. We can work together to practice healthy ways to respond to our emotions as they come and get you closer to living a life rooted in acceptance and confidence.

My work is integrative; using modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), existentialism, mindfulness, and strengths based therapy; and faith/spirituality if desired.
You've overcome trauma in your life. You are successful, but new changes are bringing up emotions that are difficult to manage. Maybe they are emotions that you haven't felt in awhile and you need a safe place to process them. Maybe you've felt them, but your current coping skills are no longer working. You are ready for relief from these emotions. You're ready to let go of the past and start this new chapter with ease, but the people who care about you want to help, but don't know how. You are ready to rewrite your story and be confident in yourself and your relationships.

Expression, in all of its forms, is empowerment. Being able to trust someone and feel safe with them is instrumental in amplifying expression. This is why it is important to find a therapist that is a good fit for you. Clients may carry experiences that they do not have the words for — and that’s okay. As an art therapist, I use the creative process to support clients in connecting with themselves and build self-confidence and compassion. I specialize in working with survivors of trauma and individuals who are facing challenges related to self-worth, depression, anxiety, family conflict, and interpersonal difficulties.

Life comes with a lot of demands, which can easily lead to increased stress, anxiety, worries, or fears. Feeling overwhelmed can impact you in multiple ways: difficulty with concentration, forgetfulness, confusion, lack of energy/motivation, foggy thinking, or a racing mind. You may be experiencing increased conflict in your relationships or more difficulty at work or school. You may not be able to get tasks done in the same way you used to do. You may be struggling to understand why things feel so different for you recently.

One Christmas season it had rained a lot. I attempted to circle my yard with my car to slide out of my drive way, and I got stuck. The more I tried to get out the more stuck I became. Finally, I had to do what I was dreading and call a tow truck to get me out of my own yard! Well, sometimes in life, we get stuck in our own mud, and we have to call help to get us out.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
