My orientation is existential and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
I have worked with children, teens, and families for the past sixteen years, first in an educational capacity and then in counseling and mentorship. While in graduate school for counseling, coursework has included family systems, marital conflict, crisis, career, human sexuality, and addictive behaviors. My practicum has involved domestic violence and sexual assault victims and perpetrators. My internship has included a very diverse population and a variety of concerns, but I have developed my focus toward teenagers, families, and couples. My passion is to help teens and families achieve their potential and live from a perspective of optimal holistic wellness.

I offer trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy and am informed by Somatic Experiencing for healing trauma.
It can be exceptionally difficult to go through daily life, and I've found that to be true for most (if not all) people I know and love. There are so many difficult things that can pile up on one another, making it complicated to maintain relationships, wellness, work, and other things you might value. Sometimes it's hard to "ask for what you need" because sometimes we have no idea! I'm here to help even when that question feels hard to answer, and our work can start with exploring goals you have for yourself. The resiliency I see in clients is awe-inspiring and beautiful, and I offer several approaches to help them get there.

In addition to evidence-based practices such as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I utilize biofeedback with breath work and mindfulness for anxiety.
Sometimes difficult life circumstances are too much to bear without help. Past trauma can come flooding back and keep you stuck in painful memories that include fear, anxiety, depression and grief. Chronic illness such as dementia or cancer can turn the lives of family members upside down, in an attempt to meet care needs. As you attempt to focus on career and family, you can sometimes find yourself blocked from achieving long-held goals and dreams. My 7 decades of life experience, along with specialized psychological training, give me a practical perspective to help you navigate your difficult life circumstances.

I have a vast knowledge of emotionally focused evidenced-based therapies ( CBT, DBT, ACT, IFS, etc), as well as an understanding of holistic methods of treatment.
Taking the step to start therapy can be difficult and filled with mixed emotions; everybody deserves the best chance in the game of life.I'm here to help you play the cards you've been dealt-just with a little more intention and strategy. I am a LCMHC, CRC, and a facilitator for MHFA. My years of experience providing individual, child/couple/family, and completing various psychological assessments allows me to keep my focus on my client, their needs, and the ebbs and flows of life. It is my hope to help the person's life become more manageable, instead of life managing the person.

In our work together, we can dismantle current maladaptive patterns and rewire our brains to process in healthy and meaningful ways. I work primarily from a cognitive behavioral approach, helping clients target specific obstacles in their lives which may prevent fulfillment of their goals.
I have worked with older teens and adults for over 20 years. I view therapy as a collaborative effort, believing my clients to be experts on themselves, and my job as facilitating movement towards establishment and achievement of their goals in therapy. I believe the therapeutic relationship to be the most crucial element of therapy. I provide a relaxed, supportive and empowering environment in which my clients can work. I believe that the more honest my clients can be with what they find beneficial in therapy, the better able we are to work successfully to achieve their goals.

I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ( CBT) and believe that its core principles are impactful and practical to willing participants.
Have you realized how important self- care is ? "You can't pour from an empty cup." My ideal client is someone who is ready for change. Someone who is ready to improve their response to stress, anxiety (or fear of the unknown), doubt and rejection. My ideal client may consider themselves a multi-tasker, having little time for their own needs; a parent/ guardian, mom, wife, "boss." You may be considering the next steps of your life and how to achieve your ultimate goals; mentally, spiritually, in relationships and career. My ideal client has a vision for their life and wants to see it come to fruition.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
