I have a desire to assist couples and individuals to overcome trauma and grief/loss as well as assist people with developing healthier communication skills and stronger relationships.
I was formerly with Southpoint Counseling and now can be found at Remedy Sense Counseling. My focus is on helping couples and individuals overcome obstacles from their past or present in a manner that allows them to become successful in life now. I strive to assist people in finding their inner strength and develop a stronger sense of self-confidence. My "ideal client" is the individual who desires to no longer be held captive by the events of their past and is ready and motivated to create their best possible life! I believe that there is hope for the hurting and counseling can assist with this.

My passion is helping those who have been impacted by interpersonal trauma to begin the healing process towards recovery & wholeness. Those who have been personally affected by traumatic events know all too well the sense of grief & loss, shame, embarrassment, & even judgment these issues often bring. I believe that unresolved negative life experiences from past trauma are the primary source of issues such as depression & other mood disorders, anxiety, relationship challenges, interpersonal conflict, identity issues, & self-esteem challenges.

Just imagine being eager and happy to come home every day to see your spouse.
Next-day appointments available! Another day of arguments, misunderstandings, and frustration. Feeling overwhelmed and underappreciated. It feels like you are just going through the motions in your marriage and not finding true fulfillment. You are finding that your time at work is more enjoyable than your time at home. These experiences lead you to ask yourself questions like, “Do I still want this relationship? Did I choose the wrong person?” Just thinking about spending the rest of your life in a horrible or mediocre marriage makes you sick to your stomach and causes dread. All you want is to feel loved, heard, and appreciated.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist trained in the practice of individual, couple, family, and group therapy. I enjoy working with individuals (ages 13 and up), couples, and families. I take a person centered approach to therapy. I believe that everyone is unique and a "cookie cutter" approach is not effective. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, self-esteem issues, adjusting to life transitions, relational concerns, and familial concerns.

My interests in therapy include: * Adult individual/couples counseling, * Relationship and parenting concerns, * Grief and loss, * Transitions, * Depression and Anxiety, * Questions about spirituality and religion.
People who seek help through the stresses and traumas of life instead of succumbing to them are the bravest people I know. Although therapy may not feel courageous, at some point, we all need the presence and compassionate care of someone committed to our healing process. This is my passion. I work with courageous people who choose to move toward wholeness while continuing to live and care for the responsibilities of their lives. A large part of my work is devoted to helping men and women work through traumatic experiences in the present and those remembered from the past.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
