I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Solutions-Focused Therapy, and psychotherapy in addition to other treatment modalities in order to assist in decreasing symptoms related to anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, behavioral and emotional dysregulation, poor self-esteem, relationship conflict, poor stress management, and severe and persistent mental illness. I aim to assist patients with building effective coping skills. I believe that my skills and kind personality allow the people I serve to feel supported, hopeful, empowered and more capable of addressing and reducing their symptoms.

My early career began with (D.A.R.T) a Substance Abuse program with the North Carolina Department of Corrections. I later transitioned to community mental health where I worked for many years. I have been able to work and adapt to the communities I've worked in and provide a much-needed service to those who are often forgotten. I have worked in communities across the Southeast US which include but are not limited to New Orleans, Atlanta, Richmond, and Raleigh, to name a few. I have been able to gain the respect and trust of the community as well as the mental health consumers.

I earned a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BS in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. I have significant experience providing clinical services for children, adolescents, adults and families dealing with a wide range of mental health issues. I was a clinician and program supervisor at Wake County Mental Health/Human Services where I developed and managed an innovative treatment program for children and families dealing with sexual abuse. I also provide clinical supervision, consultation and mental health trainings around North Carolina through the Area Health Education Centers (AHEC).

Dr. Cromwell is committed to "helping people see color when they only see black & white". With over seven years of professional counseling services, I have come to believe that people can overcome life difficulties with professional guidance and a willing attitude to change.

I also integrate clinical counseling and theology: combining research-based psychology with a Christian perspective of human suffering, hope, and redemptive love. I utilize EMDR, Gottman method, ACT and experiential therapy.

At Animal-Assisted Therapy of the Triangle, we incorporate animals in therapy when appropriate for the goals of clients. My co-therapists are Beasley (profile picture) and Pepé the axolotl. I am credentialed as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), which enables me to diagnose and treat mental health issues, addiction and substance use disorders, and dual-diagnosis cases of both mental health and addiction-related matters.
