To me, the most important things I do as a psychologist are to listen to you carefully and attentively; and to respond in such a way that you feel heard and understood on a deep level. Many people come to psychotherapy feeling their problems or symptoms don't make sense, leaving them feeling worried or discouraged. In our meetings, we will discuss your feelings and experiences, so you can learn more about what you do feel, and how your feelings do in fact make sense, given what you've been through in your life.

Did you know ages 45-55 are just as developmentally rich as adolescence? What if we saw aging as a spiritual path, and our body's symptoms of perimenopause and menopause as guides? A mid-life crisis is often characterized by an anxious sense of "is this all there is?" compounded by stressors related to caregiving, death, divorce, job loss and relationship dissatisfaction. This can create existential questions related to one's identity, purpose and meaning in life. Yet this mid-life chrysalis, is an opportunity to slow down, reflect and become more fully conscious of ourselves as women in the afternoon of our lives.

My work is based on the understandings of attachment theory, psychodynamic theory, mindfulness, and select principles of CBT.
So many of us feel stuck in life. Burdened by the weight of our personal history, and constrained by our fears and self-doubts about the future, it can feel increasingly constricted. We struggle to find our bearings as we're confronted with the consequences of prior choices, many that don't make sense to us when we look back at them. Therapy allows you to slow down, to lay everything out before you. It's a chance to honestly and compassionately address the parts of self you'd like to change and to remember and reclaim the parts of self you've lost, particularly the ones that made you feel alive to the possibilities of what could be.

I provide psychodynamic therapy to individuals (ages 14+) and couples. This type of therapy addresses the underlying causes and meanings of unwanted symptoms and dysfunctional patterns. It heals by bringing unconscious content to consciousness and by fostering deeper relationships with parts of ourselves we previously ignored, denied or even disdained. Psychodynamic therapy is often well suited for those who haven’t responded well to other types of therapy.

I believe that the deepest healing happens when therapy is rooted in connection, empathy, and compassion, so my first goal is to create an environment in which you feel understood and supported. Likewise, I believe we are truly whole when our most important relationships are thriving – including our relationship with ourselves. Strengthening these relationships is a primary focus of my therapeutic approach, along with the attainment of embodiment, mindfulness, and freedom. I work from a psychodynamic and experiential perspective to guide you towards an experience of authenticity and alignment with yourself, others, and the world.

Are you feeling alone, anxious or depressed? Unsatisfied with your career, have chronic pain or illness? Relationship stress, extended family issues? My clients tell me I'm warm, easy to talk to, and down to earth. I use a variety of treatment approaches: psychodynamic and relational, combined with CBT, EFT, and EMDR. EMDR can help almost any problem resolve more quickly because it allows the brain to make changes on a deeper level than just talking. We still talk plenty, before, during and after EMDR. My clients find telehealth to be helpful and convenient. I see established clients in my airbnb when scheduling allows.

Grounded in a deeply humanistic and psychodynamic framework- I work with individuals as they detangle themselves from the scars of their past and the unhelpful narratives that result.
There is no need to struggle alone, and yet we often do. Our suffering may appear in many different forms, from depression and anxiety, to relationship issues, substance use and more. It’s time to shed this idea that “we have to have it all together” and allow ourselves be human for a moment. In this honest space, my clients tend to become more in touch with their authentic selves and establish beliefs, values, narratives and take steps towards a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
