Most of us, at some point, feel disappointed with life. Maybe we expected it to be more. More joy. More peace. More connection with others. More meaning. We’re not looking for perfection, but is this all there is? You may label this feeling grief, anxiety, loneliness, depression, addiction, or you may be unable to give it a name. It may surface in you individually, or in your relationships. That nagging sense of discontent serves as a wake up call and it deserves attention. This is the purpose of my practice.

The clients I see most often present issues of depression, anxiety, chronic pain, grief or loss and marital or relationship conflicts.
My approach Integrative Psychotherapy draws primarily from Interpersonal Psychotherapy and Insight Meditation. It is my experience that people make changes in their lives in therapy when they feel appropriately supported and understood. This combined with awareness developed through mindfulness practices enables people to take the insights cultivated in therapy sessions and implement them in their lives. I see therapy as an opportunity to explore how our thoughts and perceptions about our life situations, determine the quality of how we experience our lives. Our self-perceptions developed throughout our lives, are often our greatest impediment to changing our lives.

These heal depression and anxiety, pain and grief, increase immunity, empower you and build confidence, increase a feeling of wholeness and connection to others and set you free from the past.
I am an integrative therapist focused on healing the split associated with trauma. Trauma can disconnect you from your authenticity and power, creating a misalignment in your mind-body and spirit. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and the Inner Counselor are two highly effective approaches used for healing. I see clients with panic disorder and depression, sexual abuse, abusive relationships, codependency and self-esteem issues and more. Bringing health and balance back around areas that have become compulsions (eating, sex, alcohol, relationships, etc.) is another important part of this personal healing journey.

Many admit that in response to certain triggers, they disappear into a bubble of shame, fearfulness, freeze, anger, shutdown, and/or panic.
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor whose primary treatment modalities are Somatic Experiencing and other body/physiology focused models. My specialty is creating a safe and contained space where deep shifts can occur, stabilize, and integrate. These deep shifts can show up as decreased anxiety and post-traumatic symptoms, decreased physical symptoms, a stronger sense of personal boundaries, as well as greater resiliency in the face of challenges. I have extensive experience counseling people who have suffered traumatic injuries, illnesses, surgeries, and emotional trauma.

Are you seeking to connect deeper with your intuitive self? I dream of a world where humanity tunes into intuitive sense for guidance. As a culture we have ventured far away from the infinite intelligence of “the still small voice within” and formulated an over reliance on the analytical mind. My ideal client is individuals struggling with addiction, anxiety, impulsivity, and/or codependency who want to connect with the intuitive wisdom that has been blocked by fear and shame. The goal in facing these blocks will be to increase feelings of self love, presence, and serenity.

Much of what drives anxiety, depression, addiction and other self-limiting behaviors has to do with internal reactions that are hidden from our minds.
I work with adults and couples who have a wide range of goals and challenges. I believe connection to oneself, to others, to community and to spirit are fundamental issues that underlie the particular problems people bring to therapy, as well as the solutions that emerge through therapeutic work.

I can help with: depression & anxiety, family & couple communication, relationship strengthening & premarital counseling, affair & break-ups recovery, divorce & relationship recovery, co-parenting, boundary setting & learning when and how to say "No", teen issues: peers, anger, rebellion, school problems & sexuality, physical, mental & emotional abuse recovery, GLBT issues & relationships.
I look at your concerns in the context of your childhood experiences, your current family and your life environments. These patterns repeat themselves. People pick up on cues that communicate what you expect out of them and what they expect out of you. These patterns are no accident, you create them! The good news is you can change them! You are like a magnet, and I help you identify what you're attracting and we change your patterns of attraction to healthy ones. It takes practice, but it can be done, and it will affect the rest of your life!

Did you know ages 45-55 are just as developmentally rich as adolescence? What if we saw aging as a spiritual path, and our body's symptoms of perimenopause and menopause as guides? A mid-life crisis is often characterized by an anxious sense of "is this all there is?" compounded by stressors related to caregiving, death, divorce, job loss and relationship dissatisfaction. This can create existential questions related to one's identity, purpose and meaning in life. Yet this mid-life chrysalis, is an opportunity to slow down, reflect and become more fully conscious of ourselves as women in the afternoon of our lives.

I work from the idea that all of our life experiences are opportunities to discover ourselves. The road to peace, health, healing, purpose, meaning, and happiness is learning how to allow and be more of YOU, and less of who you think you should/ need to be. You and I will process your story, get to know your patterns, see what is getting in the way, and ultimately help you feel empowered and inspired.

I specialize in helping people move through life’s greatest upheavals, including grief and loss, and major life transitions. These times of acute shifting can be a door to an awakened heart, but they can also come with agonizing pain. Grief can land us into deep empathy, gratitude, connection, and beauty. But how can we harvest such treasure while suffering so much? Our grief work may include mindfulness, self-compassion practices, writing, creativity, ritual, somatic attunement, needs assessment, and processing of complicated grief. I may also utilize parts work, nervous system regulation skills, if needed.

I specialize in supporting individuals preparing for or experiencing challenges in postpartum, and through other life changes. You eagerly anticipated welcoming a new baby, or making a big change in your life, but it's not going quite how you had hoped. You're realizing you’re feeling drained, on edge, overwhelmed, you're wasting time on mindless distractions, and have lost sight of the parent you are or wanted to be. Or maybe you noticed your relationships with others started to become strained, angry, or distant. I can support you in figuring out what’s causing those feelings and how to get back to who you once were… only better!

Not accepting new clients
I am not currently accepting new clients. To me, the most important things I do as a psychologist are to listen to you carefully and attentively; and to respond in such a way that you feel heard and understood on a deep level. Many people come to psychotherapy feeling their problems or symptoms don't make sense, leaving them feeling worried or discouraged. In our meetings, we will discuss your feelings and experiences, so you can learn more about what you do feel, and how your feelings do in fact make sense, given what you've been through in your life.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
