I take a strengths-based, personalized, & collaborative approach to therapy, drawing from Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, & Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
Is fear or anxiety getting in the way of your child enjoying the things they used to? Maybe it’s taking up so much time that they can’t do the important things- like making friends, going to school, or spending time with loved ones. Your child may fear that they will do something they didn’t mean to or something bad will happen, outside of their control. Perhaps they feel stuck doing the same behavior over and over again to try to find relief, just to find themselves scared and worried again. These experiences can be very painful and isolating, and if it’s your child, very confusing. If this sounds like your child, I'm here to help.

Life is exhausting for anxious trauma survivors. Even when you bust your ass to stabilize your life, you spend hours worrying about and planning for an uncertain future. Despite leaving home and finding your people, you still get stuck in painful memories from the past. You expect life to be hard, because, for you, it has been. You long for more ease, connection, and joy. At the very least, you want to sleep better, to take breaks from your responsibilities, and to feel a little better about your body. You’re tired of struggling through your day. You dream of a life that doesn't need constant fixing—a life that lets you truly rest.

Part of being human means facing stressful and frightening situations. Most of the time we can tolerate and cope with these. Other times our problems become unmanageable. Situations, problems, relationships, work, school and other life experiences produce thoughts, feelings and unhelpful behaviors that become so overwhelming we begin to believe that we will "never" find a way to get through it. If your feelings and thoughts seem too big for you to manage at this time then I would be honored to join you and assist you to find new strategies and information that will help you cope more effectively now and in the future.

As a solution-focused, strengths-based therapist, I use multiple modes of therapy including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Could your child or teen be happier? Are they struggling with self-worth, school achievement, peer relationships, depression, anxiety, or ADHD? Has the amount of time they use technology such as video gaming or social media become problematic? Life can be challenging, and most of us need help at one time or another. My passion is helping children and their families overcome barriers by empowering them with the skills and strategies to be the best they can be. I offer a safe place to process thoughts and feelings and be heard and understood.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
