I practice from an anti-oppressive, psychodynamic and somatic lens integrated with EMDR for trauma, Internal Family Systems (parts work), Emotionally Focused Therapy, and nervous system psycho-education.
I enjoy working with individuals who are seeking lasting healing and therapeutic change. You may be experiencing depression, anxiety, or overwhelm that is signaling the need for a different way of living and approaching your life. You may have past trauma and need a safe space to work through this. Old patterns, wounding and trauma live in our bodies and show up in many ways including in relationships, feelings, thoughts, beliefs & body sensations. We will work together to heal and integrate these through a therapeutic approach that is relational, embodied, spirit-oriented and attentive to the culture and larger systems we live in.

I do this through person-centered internal family systems, acceptance and commitment therapy, somatic and attachment-focused EMDR, and the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music.
To be human is to experience great joy and great pain; sensitive people feel that pain on a deep level that can be overwhelming. Whether your pain stems from traumatic experiences, attachment wounds, or emotional needs that aren’t being met, therapy can help you sit with the pain while still building a meaningful and rich life. Therapy can help you claim your sensitivity for what it is--an exquisite gift to be honored instead of an overwhelming enemy.

My favorite therapies are using a mix of mindfulness, CBT (talk therapy) EMDR and ART (trauma therapies), and Internal Family Systems (parts work).
I'm really glad you're here. I work with folx living in Raleigh/Durham, Charlotte, and Greensboro areas, all through an easy telehealth therapy platform. My favorite work to do with clients is exploring parts of yourself that you don't like, parts that might need some extra attention or healing, and internal feelings or overwhelming body sensations (like anxiety, anger, or depression) that really seem to hold you back. I really enjoy working with cis women and queer folx, exploring anything from relationships to coming out, attachments styles, old or newer traumas, implementing positive self talk, substance use, and gender identity.

I am a queer, White, culturally Jewish (anti-Zionist), cisgender woman who specializes in working with adults on trauma processing. I believe that the "personal is political" and encourage clients to explore how systems of oppression like racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia impact their mental health and well-being. I enjoy working with queer and trans clients; I am experienced in writing gender-affirming surgery letters. I take a "Health at Every Size" (HAES) approach to eating and movement. I like to use a variety of therapy approaches in my work: mainly IFS, EMDR, relational psychodynamic, ACT, and DBT.

My therapeutic style utilizes a strength-based solution-focused approach while incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
I believe that therapy works best when both the therapist and client bring their expertise to the session. You may be seeking therapeutic support for any number of reasons. You may or may not have a specific goal in mind. Together, we will work to notice thought patterns, expand your toolbox of coping skills, survive adulting, and/or clarify the path you’d like to walk.

I practice an eclectic approach and utilize multiple modalities including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy, and the Gottman Method.
My name is Savannah Corey (she/her) and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I utilize a person-centered approach to meet clients where they are, and believe we are the expert in our own lives. Therapy should be a place where you feel really safe to talk about anything, and I believe that the relationship between a therapist and client is a partnership where all people involved strive to reach the same goals. As a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, I help clients connect thoughts, feelings, or behaviors to "stuck points" in thoughts processes so that negative thoughts can be reframed.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
