Couples Counseling Therapists in Durham, NC
I also enjoy helping couples better understand each other’s desires and needs.
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) with over 4 years of experience working with adults and seniors seeking help with anxiety, stress, ADHD, depression, dysfunctional relationships, life transitions, and sexual dysfunction. While I work with a variety of people, my main focus is sex therapy. I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Sex Therapy from Capella University. I tend to think outside the box and often incorporate coping skills or techniques that may differ from traditional methods.

I strive to create an affirming therapeutic space, and believe that the client-therapist relationship is the most important aspect in anyones therapeutic journey.
Life has it’s share of challenges, whether you are a new mom, starting college for the first time, or navigating & exploring your identity. Showing up to your first therapy session, you may feel as though you are alone & drowning in a sea of emotions. The most helpful thing that I can do is get in & swim with you. There are two ways of swimming, on the surface, which may look like getting through the day with coping skills, venting, & exploring day to day stressors. The second way of swimming is to dive deep & explore some dark emotional caves that they may be avoiding. Both ways can be challenging & both ways are moving forward.

I would love to hear from you so that we can start a collaborative relationship based on openness and mutual respect.
My goal is to help individuals and couples to create effective, satisfying transitions in their lives. I believe we all have inherent strengths that we can tap into to meet our goals and get through the difficult times we experience. It can be helpful to work with someone to identify and work through the barriers that exist between our current situation and where we would like to end up in life.

My practice is dedicated to providing a safe space, particularly for marginalized communities. In addition to neurodivergent and LGBTQIA communities, I also provide a safe space to explore kink, sexuality, and non-monogamy.

My background encompasses working with adolescents, adults, women issues, families, and couples.
You are important and your life is important as well! Life happens to us all, so the question is what are you going to do about those moments? Having therapeutic support can make the difference in how you approach any circumstance. More significantly is the personal connection you have with another person who you can share your thoughts and emotional being with comfortably. Too often in mental health just like medically we can wait too late and suffer needlessly from issues. Confide in someone who will take their time to get to know you personally and assist you in finding the best part of you. EVENING hour availability only.

Cameron has worked with clients all over the US to harness the power of embodiment, mindfulness, authentic spirituality and creativity in their journeys of healing and wellness. Working with Cameron means moving beyond simply sitting and talking through problems to playing with and through them in the body, in the imagination, in nature, in narrative and in real relationship to Self and Others. Many of Cameron's clients identify as survivors of trauma (big T and little t) and partner with her to access greater safety and freedom in their body-minds through creative and somatic-based processes.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
