Two weekly slots available. Everyone goes through hard times. Whether this is your first time, or it feels like it has been a lifetime, I specialize in helping adults who have found various challenges like anxiety and depression, substance use, or trauma (often a combination) to be sources of pain and suffering. I come from a place of understanding, not judgment. Being able to feel safe, heard, and understood are important parts of creating positive change and healing. I partner with you to create the goals you want to see come from our work together, and I use evidenced based methods to help you move forward in those directions.

I am best suited for clients who are ready to work on improving their quality of life. Sometimes we need to address the past, or the present, or our worries about the future. Maybe we are supporting young humans in growing and need some direction for the best ways to set limits and communicate. Regardless of the issue, therapy is a valuable experience and a great weapon to have in tackling both the large and small issues that come up in life.

I work with people pleasers, perfectionists, and over achievers who have gotten some terrible messages throughout life from family, relationships, school, and society as a whole about who you "should" be. You have heard that your feelings are unimportant or perhaps "wrong." As a result, you have set out to make others happy instead of yourself in the form of caregiving, parenting, high intensity jobs, or compensating with lots of education. In the process, you have buried your own feelings, thoughts and beliefs, and are constantly on the the lookout that someone will discover that you are a "fake" or an "imposter."

I work with couples and individuals and support relationship concerns, trauma, depression, anxiety, etc. I have found effective growth and change is rooted in a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. In my holistic approach, I evaluate and challenge the mind, body and emotions. This provides external skills and internal growth that makes for lasting effects in relationship and within self. I truly believe that people are resilient. When someone is motivated to change, given the opportunity to be understood, validated and compassionately challenged, they can meet their therapy goals.

I specialize in Christian counseling and strive to help everyone find purpose in their experiences, create a vision for healing and truly embrace their full potential. My approach for clinical work has always been to be present with each person and encourage them to use whatever trials they have experienced to become stronger and enhance their overall story. I genuinely believe none of us have to be defined by what has happened to us in life, but rather can use those experiences, good and bad alike, to become better versions of ourselves.

Currently taking new patients! I know you're making a hard decision! I'm so glad you're choosing to take care of yourself! Maybe you're struggling with knowing who you are beyond a parent, partner, sibling, student, etc..? Some phases in life are just so challenging. I want to help you navigate through these phases with hope; without telling you how to live your life. When we struggle with our mental wellness, the systems around us also struggle, maybe that's your family, kids, pets, relationships, work, friends/social life, etc. In my sessions, YOU can lead the way and I will challenge and encourage you to see beyond the surface.

Your decision to engage in counseling is to be appreciated and honored as it often involves courage, commitment, vulnerability, and a willingness to change. It is important that you feel heard, understood, and accepted for who you are and what you have already experienced. I view my role as giving you the support, safety, caring, and respect you deserve while facilitating you doing that for yourself. I will also provide cognitive, emotional, and behavioral models, "tools" and experiences to enhance your self-awareness, self-expression, and self-care; and help you learn to trust in your basic goodness and wisdom.

Sometimes we hit a point in our lives where we realize we need the support of a non-biased person to manage difficult thoughts, feelings, and experiences. If you are ready to make a positive change in your life and take back control, we may be a good match. I have experience working alongside children, adolescents, and adults to support them with this journey. I work with each person to prioritize and support in creating small manageable goals to meet their end goal. Sometimes change feels impossible or overwhelming, but I am available to process your next steps to create a sense of wellness and increase your happiness.

I see life as a journey. Sometimes we get in a rut and have difficulty getting out, or sometimes we think we are on the right road and things turn out differently than expected, leaving us devastated and not knowing how or what to change. At times, we are unaware of our repeated patterns or how early life experiences have affected us. We usually do the best we can with what skills we have. Sometimes, we have to change our unhelpful coping skills and develop strategies and skills that will help us be happier and more functional people. Life is a journey, let's take it one step at a time.

I believe growth occurs when we courageously stay along the edges of our comfort zone and gently press into that boundary widening it inch by inch. I believe healing occurs when we fully allow ourselves to feel our pain, to sit with it, to befriend it, and to find out that it has edges and boundaries ... a beginning and an end. If you've been struggling with life - that can be big and small things - we can work together to identify challenges and build your capacity to move in the direction of optimal healing and wellness.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Dillsboro?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
