We are all on a journey, and I'm honored to help you make sense of it, as I work with couples and adults navigating the challenges of life and death. For couples, I use the Gottman Method and attachment theory to address relationship dissatisfaction and build intimacy. I understand the challenges of an ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) partnership. With individuals experiencing major life transitions, I generally take a transpersonal or holistic approach, with special emphasis on spirituality. I'm an interfaith minister and death dula, trained to be spiritually relevent in a diverse community.

My areas of speciality include working with young children (preschool and above) through young adults. My areas of interest include ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, trauma, loss, behavioral and adjustment challenges. In addition to my work with individuals, I also enjoy working with engaged and married couples.

I am trained in Gottman Method to Couples Counseling, Prepare-Enrich, EMDR (trauma counseling), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), IFS (Internal Family Systems) and EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy for marriage counseling).
I offer counseling for PTSD, childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD and relationship difficulties. If you struggle with PTSD because of the past traumas, I will gently help you decrease distress by processing and making sense of traumatic events and equipping you to respond rather than react in triggering situations. If you need counseling for anxiety and depression, we will work on skills to regulate your emotions, bring your anxiety to a healthy level, and help you experience joy, purpose and connection with others. If you seek counseling for OCD, I can help you tolerate uncertainty and fears to improve your quality of life.

I am trained in the Gottman Method, a research and evidence-based approach to couples therapy.
Are you struggling in your relationship? Feeling like things just aren't clicking the way they used to? It's tough when you're holding on by a thread, trying to meet everyone's needs while feeling like yours are being overlooked. Maybe you're wondering if it's normal to feel this way, or if there's something more you could be doing. You're not alone. Many couples find themselves in this situation, where it seems like no matter how hard they try, they can't seem to communicate effectively or meet each other's needs. But there is hope.

I incorporate the Gottman Method in couples counseling and Prepare and Enrich curriculum in premarital work.
I approach counseling with compassion and curiosity, with the goal of offering space for others to work through difficult emotions and experiences. I encourage those I work with to show the same curiosity and compassion toward themselves as I know this work can be challenging at times, but also exceptionally rewarding. I utilize psychodynamic techniques in therapy, which are targeted toward helping people understand how their unique history affects their present lives and relationships. Through this insight individuals can find healing and become more equipped to make the lasting changes they want to see in their life.

I work with couples using the Gottman Method framework to help build empathy and mutual respect within relationships.
Being vulnerable can be a significant barrier to receiving help for many who feel unsafe, unrecognized and often unheard. Learning to be open in a safe, receptive and supportive environment can be pivotal to your wellness. I work with individuals 8-years and older who are struggling with Anxiety, Depression, life transitions, interpersonal conflict, low self-esteem and unhealthy boundaries. I strive to provide a welcoming, non-judgmental, diverse, and culturally open space for you to share your feelings and experiences authentically. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and aspects of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy in my practice.

Since one theory does not fit all, I utilize multiple tools from different therapeutic modalities, such as cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, person-centered, and the Gottman method.
There are times in life when our struggles seem unbearable and overwhelming to deal with on our own. Therapy can be a wonderful resource to help unpack those heavy emotions and navigate the difficult times. As a trained therapist, I am here to guide and support you through those difficult times. My goal is to help you gain insight and a new perspective to your current circumstances, as well as help create effective coping skills. I am committed to providing a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to become the best version of themselves.

With couples, I use my (Level One and Level Two) training in the Gottman Method as well as the Prepare-Enrich Premarital and Marital program.
Oftentimes life doesn't turn out the way we had planned. Still other times, the plans we made aren't what we thought they'd be at all!! During these times, we could all use a bit of help, sometimes even professional help. That's where I come in. I have the privilege of working with individuals, couples, and families from the tween years through late adulthood— during times of transition, sadness, strife and downright crisis.

I am proud to have received advanced training through the Gottman Institute and utilize the Gottman Method in my couples work.
Life is not always easy. Sometimes life is challenging because of circumstances related to our actions; sometimes these challenges are a result of circumstances beyond our control. Regardless, these circumstances do not define us. It is, instead, our response to these circumstances that determines our course. My passion is working with individuals and families who are facing these storms. I love walking with my clients through these storms and into a bright new day. It is my hope that each of my clients will learn not just to weather and survive these storms but rather to conquer and overcome them.

Gottman Method Therapists

How does the Gottman method work?

One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?

Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?

Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
