Life is hard, people are imperfect, and circumstances oftentimes just don't seem fair. Many of my clients describe having undergone a significant trauma or series of difficult events in their lives. This tends to create feelings of worthlessness and defectiveness, even despair. They may blame themselves and try to push down their thoughts, feelings, and memories and focus on other things. They may even try to reinvent (or perfect) themselves, but somehow end up reenacting their old struggles in a way that seems to be self-sabotaging. There is often chronic fearfulness as well as sadness and emptiness.

I specialize in helping women who feel disconnected from themselves and their bodies find safe, healthy reconnection. My clients specifically experience this disconnection in the forms of eating issues, eating disorders, body image pain, low self-esteem and frequent (or even constant) mental obsession with how bad they think their bodies and selves are. They want something new and different, but often don't see 'new and different' as possible, sustainable or corrective to what they perceive are their flaws. Have you felt this way before? Do you feel this way now?

There are times in our life when we realize that we can't keep doing it alone and we need to reach out for help. Sometimes people we love hurt us. Intentionally, or unintentionally, we hurt them. We let each other down. Our children who are meant to be our greatest joy sometimes are a source of unimagined worry or pain. At times it feels that our life has not turned out how we believed it should have. This realization can feel lonely, be confusing and cause us tremendous pain. Having a safe person and a healthy, trusting relationship with an experienced therapist can help.

Life is full of many unexpected changes and challenges. I believe that when someone is experiencing a difficult life event, there is the opportunity for growth. But all too often, this event can consume and control us. If you are looking at this site, my guess is that you can relate to these words, and are seeking the help and support to be able to move forward in a positive and fulfilled way. I offer an empathic, supportive and non-judgemental approach to therapy with the goal of helping you, the individual, feel both secure and confident to make the changes that you desire.

I feel best suited to work with adult men and women who struggle with depression, anxiety, and/or a sense of powerlessness which limits their participation in life whether it be work, love or play. I am particularly interested in working with adults who are aware of sexual misuse in their childhood or adolescence which may be continuing to have influence on their current situation. I want to provide a space where the unique stories of each client may be named, felt and explored in light of their current relationships for the purpose of finding hope for the future.
