Thank you for viewing my profile. Unfortunately, I am unable to accept new clients at this time. We aren't promised an easy life and the world can be unforgiving. I am skilled at working with people suffering with anxiety, depression, anger management, relationship issues, grief, and PTSD. Having a previous career in sales and marketing, I understand the challenges of the corporate work place along with the pressure and anxiety that can accompany that life. My specialty is trauma and PTSD. I am thankful to journey with people to difficult places so they can let go of triggers and flashbacks.

Trauma leaves us feeling shattered, hurt, and disconnected from who we truly are. You may be tired of feeling overwhelmed in everyday situations, distanced from friends who can’t comprehend your experience, or burdened by the weight of what occurred. Perhaps, these feelings have consumed you for so long that you can't even recall a time when you felt differently. Regardless, one thing is clear: you're seeking relief. You're yearning to cultivate meaningful relationships without the shadow of your past looming over you. You're eager to greet each day with a sense of purpose. Above all, you're longing to rediscover self-love and hope.

As much as you want to live in this moment, you find yourself being pulled into the past or worrying about the future. You notice that you aren't able to focus or concentrate on your life or work. You can’t take a full breath, your heart races, your stomach hurts, your head aches, you feel frozen, or you feel nothing at all. You find yourself getting hooked into so many negative thoughts and worry about all the bad things that might happen in the future. You are so tired all the time, whether you sleep all the time or none at all. A part of you is fearful it might always feel this way but you're not very sure what you can do next.

Hi I'm Charlene and I’m a therapist dedicated to supporting adult women and men of color. I specialize in navigating the journey of healing from racial trauma, anxiety, grief and loss, depression, and childhood trauma. I am trained to use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR) to treat trauma.
After 25 years of working in the field primarily offering individual therapy, I am now most interested in group therapy. My co-therapist and I offer two groups currently. Both groups have openings and are ongoing psychotherapy groups. There is nothing quite like the magic of therapy group. Group can immediately effect feelings of isolation, loneliness and supports healthy connections. Group can normalize human needs for a sense of belonging and support during these most uncertain times. I am accepting new patients and I hope to keep my practice relational with a strong focus on couples, families and group therapy.

By using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), I can help you develop more positive beliefs about yourself so that you can move toward healing, and leave the past behind.
Life can come at you fast in the most annoying ways such as experiencing difficulty in your relationships, work and family. Feelings of anger, anxiety, worry, depression can contribute to low self worth. I can help you to understand why you think, feel and behave the way you do in order to help you improve your self-esteem, your mood, your relationships and your life.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
