I have completed the Level 1 and Level 2 Training for EMDR and use it in sessions.
I am a virtual only therapist with over 15 years of experience seeing clients throughout the North Carolina region. I specialize in empowering individuals or couples working through life transitions. Whether it is healing past traumas, prioritizing self-care, setting healthy boundaries, or identifying and breaking unhealthy patterns; I work from a strength-based and client-centered stance that focuses on helping clients create or enhance healthy and holistic relationships with themselves and others. To quote Brene Brown, I believe "owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do".

I am also a certified EMDR therapist, a specialized trauma based therapy that enables healing from trauma to occur both in the mind and body.
I enjoy working with adults that have unresolved issues that often stem from their childhood experiences. Many of us often feel stuck or on repeat, often making the same "mistakes" or choices that leave us feeling empty and unfulfilled. Gaining insight to past experiences and working through past traumas can provide us with emotional freedom and clarity, which can lead us to living a more fulfilling life.

I believe in tailoring each approach to client needs, from EMDR, ACT, CBT, EXRP to psychodynamic therapy.
Most clients come to therapy out of an experience of profound suffering. Their symptoms may be debilitating, leading to crisis, or they may exist on the periphery as a dull, irritating presence. They want relief and answers. Not only can we find relief and hope for symptoms but this process will entail getting to know oneself through the intermediary of an empathic, caring relationship to another. Even in behavioral skills work, we will work towards being able to contextualize your symptoms in the broader perspective that draws in interpersonal relations, your connection to your own body, and your place in the world.

Through powerful approaches like EMDR, CBT, and Ego state work, we'll explore the roots of your struggles and develop healthy coping mechanisms.
Rough times can disrupt your feelings and how you see yourself. They can also make it hard to be around other people in healthy ways. Sometimes, we don't even realize how these experiences affect us, and that can lead to automatic reactions and unhealthy coping mechanisms. Together, we'll help you gain a better understanding of your emotions and how to manage them effectively. You'll learn healthy coping mechanisms to deal with stress, anxiety, and difficult emotions and reduce emotional reactivity while enhancing your emotional resilience.

I have training in CPT and EMDR to treat trauma-related issues.
Therapy can be hard, regardless if this is your first time seeking help or if you’ve had some experience in treatment. Sometimes we may feel our lives are so complicated that we don’t even know where to start. If you’re finding yourself overwhelmed or lost, it might be time to allow yourself to be supported and prioritized. I’d be honored to help you identify and initiate action towards the valuable life you strive to live. I have three years of experience helping teens and adults identify and adopt healthier patterns of thinking and feeling to improve their quality of life and relationships.

Infidelity? Porn addiction? Sex addiction? Trauma? These issues can be tough to deal with, but I can help. I have specialized training so that you're not wasting your time and money. Not just talk, talk, talk that gets you nowhere. I used evidence-based treatments so that you're feeling better soon. As a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), a Certified Partner Trauma Therapist (CPTT), and a Certified Multiple Addiction Therapist (CMAT), I'm trained in many addictions and compulsive behavior, as well as substance addictions. Most therapists aren't trained in all these issues. I offer EMDR trauma therapy, as well. There is hope.

I'm trained in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), an effective therapy model that helps clients digest painful memories, uproot limiting beliefs & reduce distress.
Do you have big dreams for your life, but find that self-doubt sneaks in & shrinks them down? Does “I’m not good/attractive/smart/strong enough” sound all too familiar? Maybe these same doubts have crept into your relationships & led to a sense of insecurity & disconnection. We aren't born with these doubts. Cultural messages & life experiences shape the way we see ourselves & the world. If your environment growing up was not able to meet the universal need for safety, love, nurture & belonging, you may find yourself believing you're lacking in some way, it’s unsafe to trust others, or countless beliefs that keep you feeling stuck.

I specialize in EMDR (processes traumatic memories/core beliefs), Internal Family Systems Therapy (systems of protective and wounded inner parts led by a core Self), and Mindfulness-Based Somatic Therapy (emotions/sensations in the body in the present moment). I also use a variety of other forms of psychotherapy including Hakomi, Contemplative, Person-Centered (Rogerian), Existential, Relational Life Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. I provide a safe, nonjudgemental space for you to turn toward your experience. A whole body-mind approach has the ability to transform, much more than talk therapy alone.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
