I have worked with people seeking recovery from mental health challenges, substance use, and the stresses of life's circumstances for over 10 years.
You’ve known easier times, or you know they’re out there and you’re looking for them. You're taking action to feel better in the face of challenge and that’s a big deal. You deserve the support of someone familiar with challenging times. The empathy and proactive engagement you'll come to expect in your work with me, come from a place of understanding the urgency for resolution that accompanies pain. You have the capacity to learn and grow in the ways necessary to find relief, peace of mind, connection with others, and a sense of competence in the activities that are important to you.

As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS) I provide individual psychotherapy, viewing each individual within the context of their environment & their inner sources. I have worked at all levels of care. I appreciate collaborating with other treatment providers to provide the best care possible. In the midst of a struggle, we can often lose sight of our strengths, and I work alongside clients to re-connect to their inherent resilience/resources. I meet clients where they are and strive to create a therapeutic environment that is affirming, accepting and inclusive

I frequently talk with my clients about their family dynamics, fears about the future, the impact of systems of oppression, grief, substance use, physical illness diagnoses, childhood trauma, and everything in between.
It can be hard to feel like you aren't in control of your life, or like you're stuck in relational or thought patterns that you don't know how to escape. I am here to help guide you through these moments whether they be related to receiving a new diagnosis, transitioning in or out of working, entering or graduating college, or simply changes that come with aging. My goal is to collaborate with you on the things that matter most to you, to get you to where you want to go. I work with clients 14 and older, and especially love working with people experiencing life transitions.

It is my goal to help my clients and their families better navigate thing like ADHD, anxiety, and substance use so they can live a more fulfilling life. As a trained family therapist, I believe that the people who love and care about us are often one of our greatest resources; in keeping with this belief, I work directly with families of my clients to ensure the best outcomes.

My experience ranges from high-risk crisis management and dual diagnosis (mood disorders, substance use, etc) direct treatment to comprehensive assessments and integrative case management.
Are you feeling that life is overwhelming? Do you often struggle with intense, rollercoaster range of emotions? Do you want your life to change, and not sure where to start? Whatever your reason for searching out options for therapy, I am glad that you are here. My approach to therapy is not a "one size fits all" model; but rather an integrative, holistic and clinical evidenced based framework to guide discovery to your authentic self and help provide a better understanding of connection to inner truth, to mind and body, and nurture the process of reinvesting back into you.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
