I work with clients using a variety of approaches, some include: trauma-focused, crisis intervention, person-centered, cognitive behavioral.
Welcome to “Beyond Reach Professional Counseling Center.” Thank you for visiting my profile, Dana King LCMHCA. As an African-American woman, counseling was not something that was discussed in my family. I am excited to see how the perception of therapy has changed for the better. We all experience difficult times and sometimes it takes a professional to assist in the healing process and that’s ok. I want to provide you with a safe and open environment. I can offer a space of comfort, mutual respect and trust.

A colleague once told me that sometimes you just have to validate your client by saying "life sucks". Hi, welcome, I am happy you are here! I have been working in the field of mental health for over 20 years. My experience includes a variety of work settings, including community mental health, school guidance, contract mental health and private practice. Along with my psychiatric facility dog RUPP, I use an integrated, person-centered approach to therapy that first establishes therapeutic rapport to determine goals and objectives.

I received specialized training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy, which is a form of psychotherapy that utilizes eye movements to address symptoms of trauma.
If you are struggling with anxiety, compulsive behaviors, wish to overcome the consequences of traumatic experiences, or feel stuck in your life journey, I invite you to contact me. As a therapist, I strive to provide a supportive environment for individuals to gain greater self-awareness and self-regulation. Over the past decade I've supported individuals from many walks of life who have struggled with difficult to treat issues like addiction, trauma, life transitions.
Sometimes folks feel really nervous or awkward when reaching out to start therapy. They don't know what to say or how to start. If that sounds like you, don't worry you're not alone. I'm here to make that first contact as painless as possible. Engaging folks that are hesitant or uncertain about the therapeutic process is my forte. Therapy occurs at your pace with you choosing how much or little you want to share. My goal is to provide you with a safe space to grow and learn about yourself and gain tools to help along your way. I believe that therapy is a partnership built on trust, a bit of humor, and lots of metaphors.

I utilize EMDR ( trauma reprocessing therapy), somatic integration to facilitate a mind body connection, DBT, parts work and dark humor sprinkled in :) I have a warm, yet direct, humanistic, collaborative therapy approach.
Hey! and Welcome. Just thinking about working on yourself is courageous, so you did it! You made it to the therapist search. People find themselves in my virtual therapy office when they have tried therapy before, have a great deal of emotional intelligence, yet it hasn’t gotten them to the root of their issue. Perhaps you still notice a loud inner critic, a pattern of people pleasing, a feel of not being enough, that keeps coming up suggesting deeper work. It is my joy and honor to be able to untangle, partner with and create strategies for peace in your nervous system and restore belief in your badass self .

I have a special interest in working with children, adolescents, adults and families with issues ranging from, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, behavioral problems and mood disorders.
At one point or another every person faces difficulties in their life, especially in today’s world. With over 60,000 thoughts a day, most of which are negative, it is hard to combat the emotional distress that builds over time. My specialty is helping you build tools that can assist you in working through those difficulties on an individual level or within a dynamic relationship. I offer a compassionate, supportive and unbiased environment to explore life’s difficulties.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
