I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) for trauma treatment.
I specialize in treating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, OCD, marital distress/conflict, emotional and sexual abuse, and couples and families. I work with people who are struggling to create and maintain boundaries; experiencing communication difficulties; and feeling "disconnected", "angry" all the time, "stressed out" and "overwhelmed" with life. I offer a supportive space and acceptance, where judgment is suspended and solutions can be found. I view the recovery/healing process from bio-psycho-social-spiritual perspective, I am an integrative experiential/strategic family system therapist, and a AAMFT Approved Supervisor.

I have over 22 years of experience working with couples and trauma survivors.
Resiliency is a word that gets thrown around a lot. But what does it really mean? For most of us it is about recovering quickly from adversity and learning new skills to keep moving forward. Resiliency is the key to better social, physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It is also the result of positive relationships; optimistic realism; self-compassion; healthy coping skills; emotional intelligence; and finding meaning and purpose in life. Therapy is one tool for building resiliency and getting you to where you want to be.

I help individual adults and couples to… •Navigate and reduce military-related work and life stress •Understand and cope with the symptoms of trauma •Learn how to heal attachment •Learn and ingrain healthy communication skills that actually help •Build intimacy in relationship, both physical and emotional •Set healthy boundaries to encourage closeness.
My work is based on attachment theory and my primary modalities are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for individuals and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples. My clients are people for whom high stress has formed a wedge between themselves and the people they love. They want to reconnect with their emotions and reengage in their relationships but are not sure how. Stress can cause us to isolate, which then causes additional stress which increases our likelihood to isolate further in a vicious cycle that can feel endless. Don’t worry, I can help with that.

I use a person-centered and trauma-informed approach to help create the space for highly-attuned conversations where you will likely have the experience of being seen and heard.
My goal is to develop and grow an authentic connection with you so that you feel empowered to put into words what your unique experience is like. We both know that, without trust, you will not feel comfortable sharing about yourself, your life, what you are proud of, and what you are challenged by. Your goals and interests in how to use our therapeutic relationship will determine where we go in sessions, and I am comfortable using elements from several modalities, from reflective and existential to solution-focused and practical, with quite a bit in between, always through a lens of attachment and neurobiology.

I provide diverse, empathic support and informed guidance to adults suffering from traumatic experiences, depression and grief. When you are feeling distressed, anxious, unable to focus, or unable to find rest due to dwelling or despair, you may begin to feel physical symptoms (fatigue, headache, nausea, etc). The ultimate goal is to help you learn how to cope in the "now" so you can soon begin thriving and living a happier, healthier life. Then, together we will dig deep to uncover the root cause of the issue(s), discuss and practice how to balance emotions, and then build resilience and goals to live your best life, long term.

You'll find a safe, open, and welcoming space where you can freely explore stress, anxiety and trauma.
Are you tired of your thoughts going a mile a minute? Do social media posts trigger responses that hit a little too close to home? Feeling like you just can't handle it all, no matter how much you vent to your friends and how many memes you send? I get it. Anxiety and trauma can make everyday life feel overwhelming and exhausting, especially when you're going through major changes or the stress keeps adding up. I'm here to help you find balance, break unhealthy patterns, and gain control of your life so you can move forward without the burdens that aren't yours to carry.

I tailor my approach to each person, using techniques taken from therapy models such as CBT, DBT and trauma informed approaches.
Life is beautiful, but it can be hard to face the challenges that come with it sometimes. Whether it be medical issues, family/relationship problems, or just common life stresses, all of us have challenges to overcome. Some challenges are short-lived and can be overcome with small adaptations of our mindset and/or coping strategies. Others, however, can be quite daunting and complex, such as trauma and addiction. I believe that regardless of the issues we face, we all want basically the same things - to feel safe and comfortable with ourselves, within our relationships, and in the world.

I have trained with and received supervision from one of the developers of Cognitive Processing Therapy and one of the developers of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior therapy.
Life can be very difficult at times, and I want to help. I have had the opportunity to train in a variety of therapeutic modalities, making me uniquely qualified to utilize the interventions that are most appropriate for each of my clients. In order to determine the most appropriate form of treatment, I collaborate with each of my clients to determine the issues they would like to address and the goals they would like to achieve. We are then in a better position to determine the most efficacious treatment modality.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
