Life can be very difficult at times, and I want to help. I have had the opportunity to train in a variety of therapeutic modalities, making me uniquely qualified to utilize the interventions that are most appropriate for each of my clients. In order to determine the most appropriate form of treatment, I collaborate with each of my clients to determine the issues they would like to address and the goals they would like to achieve. We are then in a better position to determine the most efficacious treatment modality.

We can help you better understand yourself, set goals, resolve problems, or deal with issues related to addiction, codependence, toxic relationships, family drama, bullying, anxiety, trauma, and mood issues.
HEALING IS AN ACTION WORD. It can be overwhelming finding a therapist. Reaching out for help can be difficult in itself. You’ve already taken the biggest step! Its important that the provider you choose understand you as an individual, your needs, YOUR definition of the problem (not anyone else’s). Even if we are not the best fit for you, we can provide a safe, confidential space to examine your needs in order to find the best provider for you.

Navigating life can be challenging. Life did not come with a manual. Along the way, we all get emotional bumps and bruises. Often the advice received from family, friends, social media, etc. comes with the best of intentions but may not be what is needed. Other times, we are uncertain how to change. If you are seeking to work through life changes, relationships, traumatic experiences, depression, anxiety, otherwise improve coping with life challenges, gain greater understanding of yourself and better communicate your needs to others, I would love the opportunity to assist.

I believe that an atmosphere of trust, compassion, and empathy is at the core of any healing process. Within this context, I provide guidance in uncovering patterns of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that lie at the root of present day difficulties. Often, issues from the past, continue to have a direct effect on current feelings and circumstances. For others, the primary reason for seeking counseling may be related to a major life change or transition.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
