Working with complex couples, those dealing with major relationship issues like infidelity, infertility, illness, grief, family conflict, parenting issues, or contemplating divorce, are my passion. I take a non-judgmental stance that allows me to focus on the relationship as my client, while not taking sides. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, addiction, trauma, or other mental health conditions, I can help support you, while teaching coping mechanisms to create a healthy balance in your life. I apply a systemic approach when working with couples, families and individuals.

I work best with an individual client, couple, or the family of a child or adolescent that recognizes that what they have been trying to do to deal with their life or behavioral issues is not working well, and they are now open to finding understanding, and trying new approaches to old, or recently acute problems. My experience has been that most couples really want to save their marriage or other family relationships and will do the work necessary to build a new and loving relationship.

My approach to therapy is eclectic and personalized; and I am active in helping my clients reach their individual and relationship goals.
As a psychologist for 36 years, my goal has been effective therapy in a safe, caring atmosphere for every client I see. One of my career-long specialties is treating adult survivors of early trauma (sexual, physical, emotional abuse; parental narcissism; family violence; severe neglect; alcohol/drug abuse; and religious extremism). Relationship specialties (individual and couple) are divorce prevention or recovery, infidelity or other betrayals, intimate partner abuse, and changing unhealthy relationship patterns. I also treat sexual and other trauma experienced as an adult. All services are available anywhere in NC via online appts

Trauma leaves us feeling worthless, broken, and disconnected from our true selves. You may be fed up not knowing who you are outside of your relationship, or guilt over what happened to you. You may not remember how you got here. Either way, one thing is for sure: you're ready for some relief. You're ready to live in the moment and enjoy meaningful relationships without being triggered by your past. You're ready to wake up each morning with purpose. Most of all, you're ready to heal and love yourself again and face your future head on with a sense of hope and I can help you get there.

Everyone has a story. . . of joy and sorrow, love and sadness, wounds and healing. Everyone's story is sacred and waiting to be discovered. But often we struggle to read our story because of depression, anxiety, past pains, or relational difficulties. My vision is to enable people to experience God's powerful grace in order to live in true freedom, transformation and discovery. I provide a pathway for people struggling on the journey to find hope for their broken hearts, healing for their wounds, and a hiding place to wrestle with the grace of God.

While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
