ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS (Telehealth - available) Discussing personal challenges can often be difficult. The fact is that "life can be difficult", and there are times we all requre help "aligning our compass". Finding a therapist can be an important step in one's search for a "life worth living". For 10 years I have worked to develop compassion and empathy in assisting individuals and the families that have solicited my support in meeting the challenges and stressful situations that seems to be an unavoidable part of life.

My approach to helping: I see life as a journey. Sometimes we get in a rut and have difficulty getting out, or sometimes we think we are on the right road and things turn out differently than expected, leaving us devastated and not knowing how or what to change. At times, we are unaware of our repeated patterns or how early life experiences have affected us. At the time, we usually do the best we can with what skills we have. Sometimes, we have to change our unhelpful coping skills and develop strategies and skills that will help us be happier and more functional people. Life is a journey, let's take it one step at a time.

I work with adults seeking help with anxiety, depression, grief (particularly child loss and infertility), relational issues, life transitions and spiritual direction.
Hello! I am glad that you are seeking help at this time. I respect your courage to reach out. I believe you have a very unique and precious life story. Sometimes life takes unexpected, unwanted turns that can be challenging, and, at times, overwhelming or even devastating. For different reasons, it can sometimes be difficult to fully share all that you’re experiencing with those around you, including close family members. My desire is to be a safe place for you to experience acceptance, understanding and comfort and so that you may begin a new, hopeful chapter that includes healing and a deeper sense of peace and well-being.

You are doing life--going to work, to school--but it's not easy! And it's exhausting presenting as if all's OK all the time: to put on the smile, to muster the energy. But that little voice still whispers negativity in the back of your head: All. The. Damn. Time. You don't know how to take appreciation, much less see it in yourself. You don't know how to say no. And you just want some peace and the sense that you exist outside the needs of others.

Hello and welcome. Let me introduce myself as one who knows her soul’s purpose is to assist others find their soul’s purpose so that they may live a life of authenticity, abundance and joy just as I have learned. Often times we don’t even know that we have the capacity to create anything new. When we look around at our life’s circumstances sometimes all we can see is why we can’t. How do I know that? Because that was me. My thinking was so negatively conditioned from old emotional wounds and familial/societal conditioning. Let me show you how you have everything you need within to heal.

I have a varied background, but my focus is working with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, self-esteem, and soul searching.
Life can be so challenging to navigate, while also trying to discover and understand your true authentic self. Have you ever felt hopeless, inadequate, or unmotivated? How about stressed from racing thoughts you cannot escape? Many people have also experienced trauma, which can be overwhelming, exhausting, and create further barriers to self-growth. You are not alone. You are so courageous for taking this first step toward healing and taking back control of your life. I will create space for you that feels warm, empathetic, non-judgmental, and safe to process your thoughts and feelings while learning new skills to help you cope.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
