By reading this and thinking about what you can do; you have already taken the first step in discovering your truth and starting your journey of healing. My experience as a therapist includes providing services to a diverse population, from children to adults with a range of diagnoses. I have a background in working with individuals who have challenges with trauma, depression, anxiety, anger, and grief.

I also enjoy incorporating art, creativity, play therapy, and sandtray into sessions when beneficial.
The journey towards healing and growth is not always linear and may look different for each person. Regardless of where you might find yourself on this journey currently, it would be an honor to walk alongside you and bear witness to all of the experiences that make up your individual and collective story: the beauty, pain, joy, loss, and hope. I believe that every individual has inherent worth and value and seek to provide a warm, welcoming, and safe environment for all who walk into my office. It is my hope that clients will gain a sense of self-empowerment and confidence in navigating whatever obstacles they might be facing.

I utilize evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, play/ art therapies, Trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, strength-based, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy techniques.
Life can knock you down and keep you there if you let it. I have been a social worker for 18 years, working alongside children and families to preserve wholeness and solidity while providing coping skills, intervention, and case management. I believe for every storm in our life, there is a bright rainbow at the end. Sometimes, we need a nonjudgmental person to lend an ear while discussing our past traumas, hurt, and issues we have endured. Therapy should be focusing on the healing of the past and moving forward to become the best version of ourselves, find our purpose and live it to the fullest.

When working with children, I believe that healing can take place through the use of art and play therapy so I will utilize both.
My heart has always been drawn to helping and encouraging others. My desire and passion is working with children, adolescents, and women who are going through life challenges or have experienced events in their past that need to be brought to the surface so that true, lasting healing can occur. I believe that the most important aspect of counseling is my relationship with the client and that is my main focus with my clients. I am currently accepting BCBS, Med Cost, and self pay If you are interested in my services, please call me so that we can discuss fees.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
