I truly enjoy working with clients teaching and encouraging them how to identify and challenge their distorted ways of thinking that leads to behavioral dysfunction.
Many people have the assumptions that, "If I get married and have children and amass possessions, prestige, and power, then I will be happy with my life." Yet our perceptions, appraisals, and interpretations of our own lives, relationships, career, expectations, and dreams influence our emotional well being. Often we have questions such as "What is life all about? What will bring happiness to my life? Who am I? What is meaningful to me in life."

Cognitive Behavior Therapy(CBT) is my primary treatment approach, yet I consider my clinical toolbox to be expansive and flexible, therefore permitting the incorporation of supportive and effective elements from other clinical approaches.
I have been a practicing psychotherapist for over 20 years. I have had the opportunity to work within very unique and challenging clinical settings, including within a school, within a psychiatric center, within a residential campus and for the past decade within my current outpatient practice. The aforementioned settings have afforded a wealth of empirically based mental health insight and training, while also allowing efforts to gather invaluable clinical experiences working with adults and adolescents, dealing with mental health issues ranging from anxiety, depression, Bipolar Disorder and various other personality disorders.

I focus on understanding you fully through motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy.
I believe therapy can work for all ages and communities when we co-create spaces of safety, empathy, growth, and care. In our work together, we will address concerns such as general anxiety, depression, self-esteem, conflict resolution, goal setting, and motivation. As a former elementary school teacher, I have a history working with children, teens, and families to help them use the skills they have more effectively, and to learn skills necessary to meet their goals.

I work with individuals that have a history of addiction, trauma, addictions (substance and behavioral), history of abuse, and a number of other unresolved issues.
Are you feeling like you are overwhelmed? Do you feel like there is a number of unresolved issues in your life? Do you have a history of trauma that you feel is affecting your life today? Have you noticed that you are withdrawing from others and maybe even isolating yourself? Do you lack the tools to live in society? Is there a lack of supportive people in your life? Do you have a substance issue? Are you self-medicating? Do you find that it is hard to express yourself in social settings? Has someone told you that you have "anger mgmt. issues?" Do you lack healthy coping skills and outlets? Are you constantly negative?

I utilize theories of cognitive development along with tools from cognitive behavioral and rational-emotive therapies.
I began my career in mental health and addictions counseling in 1992. Since that time, I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, ranging from rural community clinics and hospitals to managing clinics in urban communities. I've directed an international employee assistance program, worked in university counseling centers, and developed and managed treatment programs for executives and professionals. The populations I have served have been just as varied—they include individuals dealing with addictions (both substance abuse and behavioral), mental health issues, families, adoption, indigent persons, athletes, executives

Waitlist for new clients
I work with children, adolescents, teenagers, and adults dealing with a range of issues from depression and anxiety, to autism and behavioral disorders.
My mission is to make therapy fun and interactive. Therapy can be a daunting prospect for many people, and I aim to make it as productive and painless as possible. I don't necessarily have an ideal client, just an ideal match. If the client feels connected and hopeful, change and progress can occur. I utilize several modalities, each one catered to the specific client, while at the same time incorporating family work to better support the individual. I myself am ADHD and can relate to children and adults who struggle academically and socially, incorporating a holistic approach to the therapeutic relationship.

I do have significant experience with positive results working with people and families of divorce as well as behavioral issues.
I have worked with a very diverse population and like to start with what my clients identify as their needs. Though I'm active and make observations and give guidance, I will quickly make it known to you that I want your feedback even if it is different from mine. This includes my work with adolescents and children as i know they are often reluctant with therapy yet want to be heard and this is how i join with them. Please think of your goals before coming in because this way you can determine if you are satisfied with my services. I am happy at this time to also offer Telepsych therapy sessions as an option

Behavioral Issues Therapists

What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?

No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.

What therapy types help with behavioral issues?

Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.

How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?

Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.

How effective is therapy for behavior issues?

Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
