ADHD Therapists in Bolivia, NC
I worked with the IDD population and done ADHD testing which I loved but most of my work has been in sub abuse & mental health.
Reaching out to a counselor can be intimidating. I get it. We've all had times in life when we can't manage on our own. You might think, "how did I get here?" Whatever the situation, sometimes it feels overwhelming until you are able to talk about it. A counselor can help guide you through it. Counseling can help you feel healthier, happier, more empowered. Let's work together to help you find the peace and resiliency you've been wanting. Give us a call. I offer flexible hours, as well as offering phone and e-counseling.

Some days are better than others, but why can't everyday be good? That doesn't mean every day is going go your way, but it can mean that you are less impacted by situations or circumstances that leave you feeling down, stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed. In return, you are able to cope with life situations in a way that teaches you how to live the life you want and feel good about the choices you make throughout your day. We all have challenges we face and at times, it seems easier to just give up. However, this does not have to be your destiny. You can take control of your life no matter what the situation is and find happiness.

Have you ever felt like the world was ending or has your mind raced with a million thoughts and worries? Have you ever experienced high conflict in a relationship thinking things will never change? These struggles are more common than you think and you are not alone. While I am a marriage and family therapist, I work with individuals as well, with a specialized training in family and couples dynamics.

I evaluate/treat ADHD with PCPs.
Feeling broken or overwhelmed? I understand. I've done much research on addiction, codependency & adult children from dysfunctional families. It is possible to overcome barriers to intimacy and learn why we repeat the same relationship mistakes over and over again in new relationships or why we choose unhealthy people. We can change and think differently. It takes effort and accountability, but there is help and hope. Learn from your past. Don't continue to be its victim and let the past determine your future. I work with mental health and all kinds of addictions (substances and behavioral). Let's talk. Live life!

My name is John Coleman Jr. I am a native of Statesboro, GA that moved to North Carolina in 2002. I played football while receiving my bachelor’s degree from Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. That’s where I met my beautiful wife. I am a man of God, husband, father, son and friend. I have 4 kids, 3 daughters, and 1 son. I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and drag racing. I started working in the mental health field in my sophomore year in college (2003) with adults and children. My love and passion for others motivated me to get my masters in licensed professional counseling at Grand Canyon University.

I work especially well with people who have ADHD, depression, anxiety, and substance use / abuse, but am not limited to just those areas.
I enjoy working with people who are ready to make some necessary changes in life but are unsure of where to start. I am passionate about helping individuals find their strengths and increase their confidence in themselves. My philosophy is that we all have innate value and skills that often are overlooked, but, when fully utilized, can put us on a path to be our best and happiest selves. I use a combination of a few theories, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Existential Therapy, & Solution Focused.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
