Parents, teens, preteens, and Co- Parenting counseling are my focus. I work with teens and preteens needing support with anxiety, depression, divorce, low self-esteem and who struggle with learning challenges. I work to create a therapeutic environment where you and your teen feel safe to share, feel seen and heard, and can set goals, learn new life skills; to help create space between emotions, and reactions. Creating an overall happier relationship with life. And where you as parents can receive support, and also as co-parents develop healthy communication skills, and learn to create the parenting relationship you desire.

Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you react to it... We will work together in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment to increase understanding of which life choices have been healthy and adaptive, and which ones can be learned from and improved. There are no mistakes, as long as one learns from them.

Are you feeling overwhelmed at home or work? If you are at a loss of ways to help yourself or your family overcome such barriers, then speaking with a counselor can provide you with the answers and support that you are seeking. I know it can be scary to ask for help but, my primary goal is to meet you where you are without posing any judgment. This allows freedom for discovery, hope, and fulfillment by establishing healthy thinking, healthy feeling, and healthy behaving.

I can help with: depression & anxiety, family & couple communication, relationship strengthening & premarital counseling, affair & break-ups recovery, divorce & relationship recovery, co- parenting, boundary setting & learning when and how to say "No", teen issues: peers, anger, rebellion, school problems & sexuality, physical, mental & emotional abuse recovery, GLBT issues & relationships.
I look at your concerns in the context of your childhood experiences, your current family and your life environments. These patterns repeat themselves. People pick up on cues that communicate what you expect out of them and what they expect out of you. These patterns are no accident, you create them! The good news is you can change them! You are like a magnet, and I help you identify what you're attracting and we change your patterns of attraction to healthy ones. It takes practice, but it can be done, and it will affect the rest of your life!

My clients are struggling in some relational aspect, whether it's related to a child, a partner, a parent, or connection to self. They often feel they've tried to find resolution, but are still experiencing distress and despair. They may experience frequent and/or intense dysregulation and have a hard time finding their way back to regulation. They often struggle with handling conflict and communicating in clear and authentic ways. Common issues are anxiety, life transition, grief and loss, trauma, and/or difficulty in a primary relationship.

Hello, I'm Marlowe Kovach, a therapist based in Asheville, NC. I'm deeply passionate about supporting fellow helping professionals through the challenges of burnout, anxiety, and job-related trauma. I also have a special focus on supporting parents who feel like every day is a whirlwind, and individuals processing the world through an ADHD lens. Helping professions are known for burnout—the workloads can feel like being caught in relentless waves. Modern parenting often echoes this sentiment, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and constantly asked to do more.

I support parents of children who are neurodiverse, and am a trained facilitator of the Parenting By Connection method.
I believe in feelings. YOUR feelings. Usually, people come to me with emotions like overwhelm, isolation and invisibility. They say, “I’m afraid I’m a failure,” and “I don’t think I’m doing this right.” My job is to spark curiosity about your inner landscape. I support your gradual unfolding: learning to metabolize and negotiate feeling states, becoming mindful of the present moment, and locating patterns that you might not even be aware of. I help people understand the nature of attachment, the physiology of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period, and how authentic connection nourishes our psyche and promotes long-term health.

My particular focus and experience is in anxiety disorders, depression, stress-management, trauma, relationship issues, parenting concerns and women's issues including postpartum issues .
I am committed to creating a safe, non-judgmental space for my clients. I see my role as helping people identify self-limiting beliefs, emotional blocks and other barriers that keep them from leading lives consistent with their authentic selves and their values. I combine theoretical and psychological insights with more pragmatic skills training (relaxation, conflict-resolution, communication skills). I have an active, direct counseling style that combines genuine empathic listening with therapeutic challenges.

I have been in the other seat and done the important work of healing and I feel so honored and grateful every day to partner with others on their own path to healing. I work with a range of issues including anxiety, panic, depression, PTSD, attachment issues, parenting struggles, and chronic stress.
I provide an integrative approach that speaks to the body, and allows the body to speak to us, building deeper connection, comfort, and self-trust. This leads to feeling more in control, capable, and confident. l often work with those that express that they "feel OK", but know they could get to a better place - that something they don't fully understand keeps holding them back. They often describe underlying feelings of unworthiness or feelings of disconnection. I offer dedicated guidance towards living an embodied and satisfying life, rather than getting stuck in reactivity and automatic patterns that hold us back.

I work most frequently with those who may be experiencing anxiety, work stress/changes, relationship issues, divorce, grief and loss, traumatic experiences, military lifestyle challenges, parenting/co- parenting struggles, or women's issues. These situations can make one feel anxious, sad, overwhelmed, angry, stressed, hopeless, or alone, making everyday life tasks even harder. It's not a sign of weakness to ask for help and I look forward to the opportunity to help you feel more like yourself again.

As a parent, your commitment to helping your children is paramount to their success and I want to ensure that you feel confident in the therapeutic process I will be having with your child or adolescent.
I believe every child and adolescent has the potential within themselves to become healthier and happier, and it is my job to help them unlock that potential. Traditional cognitive and behavioral approaches often fail to create meaningful change, which can lead to feelings of failure or discouragement rather than empowerment. Whether your child or adolescent is struggling with self-esteem, social challenges, or regulation skills, I can help them recognize and unlock the skills and strengths that they already have to over come those challenges.

I integrate my lifelong admiration for the healing power of the mind/body connection throughout my therapeutic practice, and so that connection is where we will begin our work together. While my clinical perspective keeps the interplay of person in environment front and center, I practice with a trauma-informed, non-pathologizing clinical lens that allows me to see the whole person with their strengths and ways of being in the world. I can help with a range of issues, including trauma, anxiety, depression, neurodiversity, life stressors and transitions. I offer support for parents and children with therapy and parent coaching.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
