My approaches include but are not limited to: EMDR, somatic approach to psychotherapy, CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, art therapy, narrative therapy, Addictions counseling and relapse prevention, internal family systems, Jungian dream interpretation, attachment-informed counseling, healthy coping skills, family system therapy.
Wholeness leads to healing. I guide my clients to accept all parts of themselves and find balance in their lives. I entered the field of counseling with a passion for treating trauma (big T and little t trauma). Along the way I gathered some exceptional tools for doing so, including EMDR and a somatic approach to psychotherapy. Not so far removed from trauma, I have also developed a specialty in treating addiction of all kinds. I have seen the power of emotional healing to transform people's lives in ways they always wanted but didn't know how. I am here to help whenever the client is ready to do that brave and powerful work.

In my practice, I utilize a number of trauma informed approaches such as EMDR (Online or In-Person), Somatic Experiencing (SE), Internal Family Systems (IFS), CBT, and more to help you resolve these early childhood traumas so that you can experience the peace, joy, and freedom in your life that you are desiring and worthy of having.
For the last 10 years I have specialized in working with boys, teenagers, men, women, and families. If this is you, it is my goal to help you overcome the barriers and problems in your life that are keeping you from experiencing the freedom you are desiring. Most often, these problems are the result of unresolved trauma and wounding from childhood. Perhaps you're experiencing depression, anxiety, panic attacks, grief, PTSD, sexual abuse, addiction (sexual, drug/alcohol, work), lack of self confidence, family issues, relationship difficulties, negative coping habits, physical or auto-immune disorders, or more. If so, I can help.

While there, I developed a love of the Latino Culture and began to understand how family systems can be developed and maintained.
The process of therapy is about removing your personal blocks to healing and helping you to remember all that is good, right, and well within you. The path to achieving this can be varied and uniquely personal. I use a variety of methods including traditional psychotherapy and EMDR to assist you in your process. I have helped clients process traumatic memories, cope with grief, and move from anxiety and depression to states of mindful calmness and well being.

I love working with individuals in the big transition stages of life. I have a passion for helping patients sort out the often confusing and disorienting realization that there is no "right" way to do things. Being a new parent, navigating relationships and intimacy, working through family relationhships and the every changing political climate are all transitions that interest me. The journey is about figuring out a happy medium between your way and what is acceptable to those that love and support you.

Please reach out with questions or to see if I may be a good fit for your child/adolescent and family.
I believe every child and adolescent has the potential within themselves to become healthier and happier, and it is my job to help them unlock that potential. Traditional cognitive and behavioral approaches often fail to create meaningful change, which can lead to feelings of failure or discouragement rather than empowerment. Whether your child or adolescent is struggling with self-esteem, social challenges, or regulation skills, I can help them recognize and unlock the skills and strengths that they already have to over come those challenges.

Modalities I include but not limited to DBT, CBT, EMDR, solution focused & family systems.
Life can become overwhelming and exhausting when you are trying to juggle everything in your world. You may want more clarity in life or want to find a new direction. You may feel stuck and having a hard time moving forward. It can be exhausting trying to muster up the energy to get out of bed and take care of your responsibilities and yourself. You may have thoughts you are not worthy or have a fractured sense of self. What would it feel like to have the energy and motivation to finally take on the day again, to feel worthy to live the life you want, or to smash those goals you have put off?

Over the last 10 years, I have provided individual and family therapy to adolescents, and young adults, as they work to figure out their place in this increasingly complicated world.
Adolescence to early adulthood can be a confusing and overwhelming time in a person’s development, but it’s a time with potential for powerful growth and healing. Your teen or young adult may be navigating sexual and gender preferences, peer relationships, and school responsibilities. They may be suffering from discrimination or bullying. Often these experiences can erupt in an array of struggles: anxiety, depression, gender dysphoria, anger, isolation, body image issues, or lack of focus. You want your kid to feel comfortable in their own skin; to learn ways to accept themselves and to thrive on whatever path they choose.

A strong relationship between you, your family, and your therapist are vital.
Change can be difficult. Therapy provides support as you adapt to life's countless changes and curveballs. As a clinical social worker, I have spent time working alongside teens, young adults, and adults as they work through issues varying from hospitalization to exploring substance use and its effects on daily life, behavioral issues, and family conflict. I draw extensively from Maslow's hierarchy of needs and help clients explore their immediate basic needs and safety while addressing love and belonging, self-esteem, and spiritual aspects of daily life.

I use narrative therapy to address anger in women, conflict in family relationships, codependency, sexuality and setting boundaries.
We're supposed to drink enough water, get enough sleep, exercise, save money, make money, work hard while having work/life balance, be a great spouse/parent/sibling/child, travel more...the list is endless. We are taught to engage life at a grueling and intense pace that is becoming increasingly difficult in the backdrop of a tumultuous world in crisis. I don't view mental health in a vacuum; sometimes depression and anxiety are appropriate and healthy responses to stressful and unprecedented life events. I teach solution-oriented skills to address feelings, improve communication and live in a healthy way that honors your humanity.

I am a native of WNC and love to call these beautiful mountains home! While working to complete my education, I gained experience working with older adults at a residential treatment facility as well as with older adults in a long-term care facility and the Senior Resource Center. Upon graduation, I worked as a clinician at an adult inpatient psychiatric unit. I then went on to provide therapy and crisis response to both children and adolescents within the school system. I bring a diverse range of skills and knowledge while working with individuals of all ages and from different walks of life.

When certain parts of our life feel out of control, it creates stress that impacts other areas of our life. Seeking help can feel like a chore. Not only do you have to find a therapist that feels like a good fit, but you have to tell your story to a stranger. I know all of this, and I want to make it feel easy, productive, and worth your time. I enjoy helping all people, but some of my refined interests include traumatic stress, attachment injuries, SUD's, and life transitions. I can help adults, teens, kids, couples and families. In my work with teens, I have interest and experience in helping adoptees and transnational adoptees.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
