I have come to believe that by the time we meet you have probably been judged by a long list of people, organizations, culture, etc... I believe you may need to give up who you should be to be who you are and that can be amazing work! Client's I work with tend to begin a journey toward discovering their own core values and beliefs, and with these discoveries, begin to ask for things, in life, that line up with those values and beliefs. This leads to purpose, fulfillment, and an authentic life. Come and mend!

Navigating a path that is different from what your parents, friends, or even what you had originally planned should feel warm, celebratory, and freeing, but perhaps you’ve experienced inner turmoil, persecution, and pain instead. The pain of your identities, unique experience, and even your very existence being dismissed and invalidated. Entering into relationships that others don’t understand or approve of can cause tension in the relationship itself. It feels as though there’s a magnifying glass on your ‘non -traditional’ way of life and you’ve become hyper-aware of how you show up in and are experienced by those around you.

I've been doing psychotherapy for about 50 years, and hope to never have to give it up. My role in the work is to get to know the other person as thoroughly and deeply as possible, providing the opportunity for them to get to know themselves more deeply as well. If that sounds like something that could be helpful to you, give me a call and we'll see whether we can work together.

My work primarily focuses on anxiety related issues especially when going through a transition (break-up, career change, medical diagnosis). I work a lot with people as they adjust to life living on their own, navigating careers, and relationships. Much of the session will be focused on calming your flight or flight reaction so you can be in a better place to make decisions, set goals and respond to whatever life throws at you. I provide video and face to face sessions.

Are feelings of shame, guilt, worry, overwhelm, isolation, loneliness, self-doubt, grief, insecurity, obsession, or panic pulling you away from feeling connected to yourself and others? Maybe you are holding so much on your plate that you simply need another person present to hold it with you, offer kindness, non-judgement, and validation. No matter what brings you to this page, know that you are not alone. There is so much to navigate in this life and it does not have to be done without support. I would like to be that support for you on the other end.

Truth is I am tired! These are words that I have uttered multiple times during my life journey and I am sure you have as well. As a black boy growing up in the rural south, I know how hard it can be to find space to talk about the hard things. Having to hide how you truly feel in order to feel safe. Wanting to have access to all the feelings that a HUMAN is allowed to have, granting yourself permission to experience anger, joy, peace, safety, serenity, and love. I know first hand how difficult it is to honor your own experience and live out your own values when the fear of letting others down is painful.

The goal is to help you learn how to help yourself by providing you tools and coping skills while processing the impact that life and others may have had on you. Do you struggle with feeling empty, unfulfilled, and lost? Maybe you are using substances to mask or cope with the emotional pain. Maybe shame, guilt, or grief is holding you back from feeling like yourself. Maybe life just feels too difficult or not worth it?

If you’re like me, you want to feel connected; connected to self, friends, family, significant others, work, and even fun. Though we want connection, at times life gets in the way, with anxiety, depression, avoidance, a good Netflix show, a bad Netflix show, and the perception of failure. Even the idea of vulnerability in relationship can send us running. I wish I could tell you that if you just do A, B, and C then the pain, fear, discomfort, conflict, and insecurities will all go away and you will have the rich, full, meaningful life that you deserve. Unfortunately, this isn’t the reality that we live in.

Life oftentimes can be stressful, sometimes can be surprising - but life is rarely simple. At times, we find ourselves wrestling with anxiety that makes life feel impossible. Perhaps feelings of depression have made finding happiness difficult. We also can be overloaded with stress, feel stuck, or notice changes we would like to make in order to thrive. I believe that you know yourself best, and hope to recognize your own personal wisdom that may guide you to your best self.

Do you often find yourself comparing yourself to those around you, wondering how they all seem to have it all figured out while you are just trying to hold it together? You are stressed, on edge, and wondering if anything will ever change. You may find yourself struggling to enjoy things in life, maybe even pulling back from friends and family because they may not understand. You are ready to make a change, to find balance, to be you – but you have no idea where to begin.

If you’ve been feeling that it’s time to unpack the traumas you’ve been carrying for too long, or if you’re ready to get to know all of the parts of you, even the ones you tend to look away from in shame, you’ve come to the right place. You have the power to create a life you are excited about—a life you're fully here for. You have the power to embrace, heal, and live into every facet of yourself. I would be honored to support you to open your hands to the power you hold.

We’re wired toward a sense of belonging and connection to ourselves and others, but we all have strategies to protect us and adapt to life's challenges. Sometimes these inadvertently impact our mental/emotional health and get in the way of the flow of life, leaving us feeling confused, stuck, or disconnected. Other times, those strategies feel suddenly inadequate in the face of circumstances outside of our control. Giving space to layered, complex thoughts, emotions, and experiences and experimenting with new ways of being with a compassionate, well-trained therapist can support you in navigating a life that feels more like yours.
