Do you feel like you don’t know who are? Do you feel misunderstood? Have you struggled with confidence, fear, and hopelessness? Having these thoughts and emotions can be incredibly painful. Many feel ashamed for having them and try to manage their mental health on their own. This tends to perpetuate greater feelings of isolation and relational pain.

We all have a need to be heard and to be seen. Specific struggles that you seek counseling for can be addressed, but even more important is feeling cared for and considered. As a counselor, I believe that the therapeutic relationship creates safety and trust. When a person feels safe and can trust the process then they are able to explore the issues that led them to seek help. Counseling is different for everyone, some need to tell their story, some need information/resources, some seek a plan/directions, and some seek personal growth. Each person is unique and needs a specialized approach.

Do you ever wake up and wonder, "How did I get here?" or "Why did this have to happen to me?" Maybe you wish your life looked differently but are not sure how to get there. We all have "things" we need to process, but my experience is that we often get “stuck in a rut” with how we approach problems. We need a new perspective or another person to help us process our "stuff” - someone who can ask us questions to help us to see things from a different vantage point or to help us rewrite our stories with hope, purpose, and excitement. My desire is to help people see how the “stuff” in their lives can be used in amazing ways.

Whether looking for a local counselor or you prefer a counselor with a little distance from where you live, I am ready to truly listen and care about where you would like your path to lead. You may not even have considered counseling before...then the Pandemic hit and you found the well of resilience you have always relied upon was not deep enough for all of the chaos, change and waves of grief. It's time to work through what surfaced while you were enduring incredible stress and upheaval in your world. Let's talk and see if this is a good fit for you.

Do you want to resolve conflicts in ways that create harmony and truly address your concerns? Would you like more understanding for your feelings and needs? Would you like empowerment to contribute your gifts to the world? Drawing upon my 30 years in recovery, 18 years as a therapist, and a wealth of tools I have learned through my passion for serenity and empowerment, I help people enhance relationships with other people, sometimes with a higher power, and, especially, with themselves.

Each person comes to the office with unique needs and deserves respect to be heard and understood. Working collaboratively, I offer marriage counseling, along with many other services such as depression and anxiety treatment. As an Imago therapist, we recognize that conflict is growth waiting to happen. I often observe growth and healing in people and feel privileged to have accompanied many on their healing journey. By caring for them, I am personally stretched and shaped through their suffering and in turn only deepens my compassion for others. In part, this creates my tapestry that I hope reflects Grace in paying wisdom forward.

Life is really rough right now in so many ways! We have never experienced anything like what we are experiencing right now. Life has been flipped upside down, anxiety is sky high, depression is increasing, relationships are suffering, and those with children are being forced to become homeschool teachers. The sense of balance in our lives has been thrown out. We feel stuck, depressed, anxious, and maybe even hopeless. It is really important to take care of yourself in this space and reach out for help, to talk things through, and figure out how to move forward in a positive direction. You don’t need to stay stuck in this space.

My practice at Living Hope offers Christian counseling which is gospel centered and grace based, and provides the opportunity to integrate a biblical framework and understanding of the world with effective, compassionate, and evidence based treatment.
I have great respect for individuals willing to engage in the therapy. It is not an easy process, but it does provide an opportunity for real change and healing. I have spent much of my career working with individuals struggling with issues of addiction, depression and anxiety, and other severe and persistent mental illness and personality disorders. Much time has also been spent working with those recovering from a history of trauma or history of physical, verbal, and sexual abuse.

You can experience this and I want to support you along the way! I also work with those interested in exploring their Christian faith.
You want something to change. You feel overwhelmed. Anxiety and stress keep growing daily and you wonder if you will ever be able to understand what is going on inside of you. Perhaps the shame and/or guilt of not doing or being enough just won't go away. You may feel like you never have time for yourself anymore. There may be feelings of sadness around a loss of a person, place, relationship or dream. It's possible you keep thinking that some things in your past you just can't let go of. All of this may be creating difficulties in your relationships and you don't know what else to do anymore. You just want something to change.

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.
Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?
Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.
How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?
Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.
Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?
While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.
Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?
The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
