I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of successful therapy. I believe in acceptance-based change. We must first accept what is before we can decide what will be. This included self-acceptance. I use an integrated counseling approach that emphasizes congruence, unconditional positive regard, empathic understanding, and collaboration. I also draw on various techniques, from humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, rational-emotive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and positive psychology.
I am laid back, honest, and empathetic. I believe that you catch a lot more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. However, they do make a version of honey, which is called hot honey. It is still sweet but can sometimes be a little spicy.
I hope it is my compassion and empathy. I would hope what keeps my clients coming back is feeling that connection and trust that comes along with the therapeutic process. I try to be someone on their side who they know is helping them to reach their full potential.
