I have been providing individual, couples, and family therapy for over 35 years. Areas of specialty in my clinical practice include couple/family relational issues, anxiety, depression, stress and health, life transitions, and work systems issues. Anxiety may interfere with a person's ability to think clearly at times of stress or crisis and may impede their finding a course of action. Through the initial assessment phase and as therapy progresses, the ability to think more calmly and objectively about a problem can return. A person may then more effectively address the inevitable challenges in relationships and in life.
A new client can expect to be asked to define the presenting problem and provide a brief history of it. Achieving a broad understanding of the current situation may help in obtaining objectivity. Although crises are often resolved in four to six sessions, some people choose to continue therapy to deepen their understanding and sustain changes achieved.
In addition to my clinical training and experience, my doctorate in public health and epidemiology provides a unique perspective and a broad context through which to view clinical issues. Of particular interest are the areas of stress and health, and understanding physical symptoms within the context of relationships and the family system.
