In recent years, I have been using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which is an approach that is similar to Gestalt and Music therapy, in its focus on the here and now and mind/body integration.
I have worked with many different clients with many different struggles over my career. I have only worked with adults (18 and above) but have worked with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, mood instability, ADHD and other diagnoses. I have also worked with couples and have run both psychotherapy groups as well as psycho-educational groups, including anger management, grief and other topics.

I received my Masters degree in Music Therapy at Drexel University and am board-certified by The Certification Board for Music Therapists.
As a licensed professional counselor and board-certified music therapist, I collaborate with individuals and couples to cultivate increased self-awareness and self-acceptance while building tools to better cope with life’s challenges. I believe that each of us deserves to develop a rich, full understanding of ourselves. While the process of self-inquiry can be challenging, I hold the space to safely explore aspects of self that might feel uncomfortable, with the goal of building a positive, authentic relationship with yourself and others.

I blend different therapies like DBT, CBT, Music Therapy, Yoga and more to help you overcome symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Are you working towards self-acceptance? Are you tired of the roles and stigma that have been placed on you? Does a life worth of anxiety feel like a heavy load? Do you sometimes feel stuck, creatively, career wise, socially or emotionally? Do completing the smallest tasks seem monumental? Do you want to find and harness your potential? Have you struggled with mindfulness or meditation? Do you find that sometimes your emotions drive your decisions? Do you want to improve your life but don't know where to start?

My music therapy background allows for expanded creativity in sessions, but music is not typically centered in my practice.
I am a psychotherapist and music therapist. I enjoy working with kids, teens, and adults of all ages. I approach therapy from an anti-oppressive and systems perspective, meaning that my primary lens seeks to understand systemic barriers and discriminatory cultural contexts that impact the well-being of those I work with. I am well positioned to work with folks who are LGBTQIA+ and/or inhabit non-traditional family/relationship structures. I have many years of experience working with folks who are grieving, chronically/terminally ill, autistic, depressed, anxious, and folks who have experienced trauma.

I pull from music therapy (if you're open to that!), Gestalt, person-centered, and CBT counseling theories.
Accepting new clients! You often feel like you are navigating a world that was not meant for you. You have spent years trying to find "your place" in the chaos but continue to struggle with where that is and how to even begin exploring that in a way that feels safe and supportive. Honestly, you have a hard time envisioning what it would even feel like to have found "your place". You often feel "other" and "on the outside", which makes social and romantic relationships difficult and only exacerbates the feelings and experiences you already struggle with on a daily basis. Anxiety, grief and loss, depression, neurodiversity, stress...

My clients are people navigating life transitions, learning to love their bodies, or questioning their gender identity and/or sexual orientation. Our time together might look like healing trauma, reconnecting with family, or using mindfulness exercises to create more bodily awareness. Through this process, I spend time with clients to discover the values and pieces of their identity making them who they are. A big part of my role is empowering these individual pieces so clients can feel whole.

Finding balance in life can be tough. Stressors that come with everyday living can be difficult to manage and take away from feelings of fulfillment. My role is to find strategies to get in touch with what it means to be you. Our experiences are unique and mold us into who we are today. My approach takes this into account by using various mindfulness techniques, expressive art therapies, and strength-based approaches to get to know yourself. I practice with a trauma sensitive lens which makes for an inclusive and compassionate atmosphere. Therapy works best when feeling heard and accepted and this is the foundation of my approach.

My clients might struggle with depression or anxiety... perhaps struggle with life transitions... or maybe need help in balancing their daily life with the demands that their recovery requires. Eating disorders, personality disorders, addictions, and Complex PTSD require skilled support for true recovery to be achieved. I love working with clients who embrace their autonomy in this process and are ready to do the work! I'm here to support you... I operate under the understanding that you already have everything within you that is required for you to thrive. I'm just here to help you tap into it :-)

How does music therapy work?
A music therapist will begin by assessing the client’s specific needs and getting a sense of their musical ability and interests. Musical training is not required, and clients of all ages can benefit from this type of therapy. The therapist will then make a plan for how to achieve the client’s therapeutic goal(s) using a range of receptive (e.g., listening to a song) and active (e.g., drumming in a group) music therapy techniques.
What are some common music therapy techniques?
Music therapy usually involves listening to music (either live or recorded). Music therapy clients may also make music on popular instruments, such as the piano, guitar, and hand drum, or sing. Sometimes music therapy can include guided imagery. A music therapist may ask clients to improvise on the spot or even compose their own songs. Dancing or moving to music can be an effective intervention to help clients feel more fully grounded in their bodies and remain in the present moment.
How does music therapy help with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)?
Music therapy can be a valuable creative outlet for clients with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who have trouble putting their painful feelings into words. Listening to music can be relaxing while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. In addition to its mood-boosting effects, music therapy can help clients build resilience and overcome PTSD symptoms that may interfere with their daily lives.
How long does music therapy take?
Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes. They can be scheduled in advance (for example, once a week) or can be done on an as-needed basis. Some clients will only require a handful of music therapy sessions to achieve their goals, while others may need months or longer, depending on their specific concern.
