Hello, my name is Dr. Matthew Giobbi. I work exclusively with creative & performing artists on issues of creative process, peak practice, and peak performance. I do not provide psychotherapy for mental health issues and will not respond to inquiries of that nature. Clients typically wish to find solutions and discover insights into issues of practice and performance. I specialize in working with musicians who perform in all genres and ensembles of music. My mode of coaching and counseling is based on philosophical, Buddhist, psychodynamic, and existential-phenomenological psychology.
Typical issues include performance anxiety, impostor complex, Jonah complex, inability to complete a creative project, audition preparation, as well as creative process and peak performance and practice. I offer individual and group sessions in exploring and coming to useful solutions for issues specific to performing artists.
Through my experience as a conservatory student, orchestral musician, jazz pianist, as well as a university professor and psychotherapist, I offer performing artists unique insight into understanding their relationship with their art. Please feel free to contact me with questions. Together we can work towards your personal peak performance.
